Jarmo: Got a reply from GOG
Sweet, knew they'd come through sooner or later.

-------------
Hello,

Incidentally, we went over this with the rest of the team earlier today and the updated installer has been uploaded already. It may take until tomorrow for it to be propagated across our file hosting provider's servers, though.

Sorry it took so long.

Regards,
Peter

GOG.com Support
Looks like it's definitely up. I re-downloaded the NWN installer, and there's some file size differences in the bin files. For example, the 2nd bin file now weighs in at 261,338kb. With my previous download of NWN, the 2nd bin was 166,108kb.

Upon uninstalling and reinstalling with the new installer, and loading the game up, several graphical glitches I was having seem to be fixed. Including an area transition bug I was having on a certain server. Good job GoG.

I've finally gotten around to re-downloading, uninstalling, and re-installing the GOG version of the game in order to repeat my data file comparison that I had previously performed to shed some light on the issues people were having with missing textures/models/etc.

------
<span class="podkreslenie">From the earlier thread...</span>:
Missing:
xp1patch.bif (7.69MB): I'm not sure this file is used anymore. The 1.69 linux server patch specifically instructs you to delete this file.

Incorrect File Size/Date:
xp2patch.bif (127,609kb): Critical rebuild patches this file to a 359,896kb file that was modified 3 years after the GOG install file (4/29/2005 vs. 5/15/2008)
xp3.bif (463,718kb): Critical rebuild patches this file to a 627,919kb file that was modified 9 hours before the GOG install file (5/15/2008 10:46PM vs. 1:46PM). Weird.

Given the above file sizes, there's your missing ~0.4GB
------

With the latest GOG version of the game, the above mentioned file size issues have been corrected; the critical rebuild patch should no longer be necessary.

The xp1patch.bif file is still missing, but I am fairly certain that file is unnecessary given the above reference to it needing to be deleted for running a Linux server, in addition to it not appearing to contain any new content (just curious looking res* references that I do not know the nature of) when you look at what it contains.

Does this mean that I don't need to install the rebuild patch (whatever it is..) if I re-download and install the game?

Also, does the multiplayer CD-key, which I got from the support, work if I re-install, or do I need to ask another key?

As Mattoco pointed out GOG seems to have fixed that so no need for the rebuild patch anymore.

Well...just save a copy of your old NWNCDKEY.INI file before re-installing. The multiplayer CD-keys that you will need to use after the re-install are in that file...

BTW, this game runs fine on Windows 7 after it's patched and you tweak the ini (SafeMovie=1) slightly. I'm running it on a laptop at that. Yeah, it occasionally lags, but it's far from unplayable.

you can fix the lag if you have a multi core processor by setting the affinity settings, there are posts on these forums with instructions, I think you set the value to -1 or -2 or something like that.

Majkes: I love all the GOG thing but the stuff that is going on with NWN is ridiculous for me. This game is incomplete, its bugged and almost unplayable on vista without searching the net and looking gor fixes. This is totally against GOG policy "download install play the best version there is" And there;s totally no feedback from GOG team. I really dont like this.

emusan: care to explain what you had to search the net for and download? If you talking about the critical rebuild patch, which is all you really need(and it will still run fine without it), there are plenty of links around these forums.

Also, you should know that if your trying to play pretty much any old game on Vista there will be problems, and unless you know much about computers, a few internet searches will be required.

You must remember that GoG does not have the source code for the games they sell, therefore they can't reprogram every one to work with every version of every operating system. They do their best given what they have.

Also, these forums are for support as well. GoG is not a large company, and they therefore can not answer ever question as fast as you want, especially during the holidays. If you come to the forums and ask your questions you will usually be answered very fast.
hmmm but without sources how can they make non-DRM free game into DRM-free game? :-)

OOOOOH look at me, I can point out something that CLEARLY no one has posted about before AND at the same time I can resurrect a month old thread.

Your not stating anything that has not been discussed months ago, I'm so nice I'll even post a link so you don't have to search.

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/neverwinter_nights_diamond/why_do_i_have_to_send_a_request_for_a_cd_key/page2

I even sent you to the page with the most helpful posts, because I know that being a troll can be taxing at times.

Also, in the future, please do us all a favor and do a search before you post, even if you are just trying to piss people off, you would have been far more effective had you chosen a new subject.

yes, you're very nice indeed :-). I actually meant case that the game (I don't know about NWN) requires a CD inserted into CDrom (or another optic) mechanic :-). If you want to force applications behavior about this you have to make changes into it... I don't know if developers send them "some" precompilations without this protection or what. I'm just wandering :-). I meant no offence with that question and I'm sorry for making you upset :-(.
ok, I'm just so used to so many people here complaining about the CD-keys. There are other ways to remove the checks for CD's, which don't need access to the source code, but I don't really want to get into those here, you can do a google search if you want.
Actually, this game had the CD-check patched out a long time ago, even before it came to GOG.
