So I was messing around with the graphics and set anti-aliasing to x4 just to see if my computer could run it (I'm not good at the computers) which prompted a "changes will take place on restart" type message. So, dutifully, I did so, only to be confronted with a black screen. I can hear the intro credits playing, my cursor is on screen and functional and I can even skip through the credits and use the Main Menu... only, I can't see a darned thing so it's all moot. The game was already working perfectly fine, so the anti-aliasing seems to have been the cause of it. Is there a setting in the ini file to set it to default?

In the nwn2.ini , from your ....Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\ folder, set MultiSampleType=0 (to disable anti-aliasing)

Or you can move your save folder & your override folder (if you have mods in there) & delete your ...Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2 Folder.
The game will create a new completely default setup next time your start.
Then just move the two folders back.

Deleting the folder seems to have done the trick, thanks!
