Hello,

I was just curious if anyone here had suggestions for solid role-play persistent worlds that're set in Forgotten Realms.

Thanks,

You can read promotional threads about NWN persistent worlds and [url=http://www.gog.com/en/forum/neverwinter_nights_diamond/nwn_the_original_game_and_way_beyond_heads_up_for_nwn_owners]here. Also, there is an excellent topic found here that takes a less biased look at a number of PW's and gives in-depth reviews.
I suggest Arelith. It's the biggest PW RP server out there. It's divided into three (that are connected easily by simle transition points): Arelith Cordor (Cordor is the neutral merchant city, the newbie area), Arelith Surface (the rest of the world), and Arelith Underdark (mostly for the Drow and the occasional adventures of higher leveled groups).
If you're not Drow, you'll be spending most of your time between Cordor and Surface. At the peak hours these two servers together, I think, have nearly 100 players logged on. It's american mostly, so me, at GMT+2, usually don't get to enjoy the best hours. But even so it's always populated.

There are two brilliant ideas (as far as I know) that Arelith introduced. RolePlay Rating, and Mark of Destiny.

RPR is a consistent amount of XP you receive every 6 minutes. Every 6 minutes your stats are updated (hunger, thirst, rest and piety). The always go down a bit, ranging from -100% to 100%. You can rest freely as long as your Rest is below 50. Every full rest adds around 15%, I think. Maybe 20%.
Anyway, the point about RPR is that every 6 minutes, depending on your Ranking, you get XP. 0 is the beginning, then there's 10, 20, 30 and 40. 40 is for the truly epic players, those who always make RP on large scale around them. 20 is consistent RP with your character, and 30 is a somewhere in between good RP and adding a lot to the community and server.
This system is great in encouraging good RP. I can tell you that nearly all my XP is made through the RPR.

The other great addition is the MoD. Essentially, it means that after 10 deaths, your character is permanently killed. You can't even remake him. But you progress faster. Meaning you get an additional 20xp every 6 minutes.
I have MoD and a 20RPR. That means that every six minutes I get 40XP. It might not sound much, but it surprisingly is enough, and most of my levels (even if I'm just 7 or 8 right now) were made by RP'ing.
Btw, the MoD adds a lot to every adventure, because you turly fear for your characters life. It makes everything more significant, without being too Nazi - you have 10 deaths, which is quite enough if you play smart.

I can't tell you about the RP in a larger scale, but I understand that the key players in the server are the ones driving most of the RP, not necessarily DM events. I mean that as a good thing - this is a community that drives itself.
I have a couple of tips for RP PW's on my guild page.

Especially check the one called "Shattered Lands" ....that is where I play now mostly.
