Hey everyone! My friend and I are going to be playing through NwN 1 OC together and he's going to go Rogue. I was wondering what a good class would be to play along side him. I know Cleric would probably work well, but I'm playing a Cleric in Single Player currently. I'm not opposed to it though!

What do you guys think that would work well?

Cheers!
Basically anything. Fighter/Barbarian/Paladin/etc for front line and providing flanks, cleric/druid for divine spellcasting and flanks, wizard/sorcerer for arcane spells, etc.
any front liner. You take the heat while the rogue can sneak attack. In NWN1 pretty much anyone can be the tank for a rogue, even mages with buffs and damage auras, but mages usually have generally same abilities as rogues so i would go with a non-mage.
I agree. In multiplayer, I've had a lot of fun teaming up my fighter with other people's rogues. It's a good team because both characters can contribute a lot, without either overshadowing the other. The fighter can wade in and smash things, keeping the rogue alive, getting him out of trouble using feats like knockdown. The rogue deals massive damage with his sneak attacks, which work much better than they do in single player, and he also uses traps, spell-scrolls, etc. to help deal with tough challenges.

With clerics in multiplayer, I find that there's a risk that first the other player(s) get bored standing around as the cleric casts 20 gazillion buffing spells, and then they remain bored as the cleric single-handedly smashes everything that's ever been in need of smashing. Or, alternately, they rush off whilst the cleric is buffing and the party gets killed piecemeal.

Obviously, it doesn't need to go that way. A cleric player who actually buffs the other players as well as himself and doesn't feel the need to empty his spellbook for every encounter is a great addition to any party. But it's something to keep in mind when playing one in multiplayer.

Great advice! How is Dwarven Defender? I'm itching to play one, but I don't know how good they are. I don't mind tanking things and being a brick wall of absolute pain and defense.

Dwarven Defender is quite good. Also, don't fall into the trap of thinking you need to maximize Constitution over Strength...you can be very hardy as a DD and still have a very, very solid offense.

Alright! Great to know! My Rogue companion will be doing the talking, so , I don't need to worry too much about charisma! What weapon would you suggest? I'm thinking either Longsword or Warhammer, or maybe a two handed weapon.

Longsword or Warhammer are both fine. I'd go with 1H + Shield, it gains so much more defense than the offense you lose.

If you're trying to optimize, I'd actually suggest the Morningstar. It deals both Bludgeoning AND Piercing, does 1d8 base damage (same as Longsword/Warhammer), and only falls behind Longsword/Wahammer vs crit vulnerable enemies...which the rogue is likely Sneak Attacking anyway. Morningstar makes you better vs the stuff the rogue will struggle with.
I'd pick a dwarven waraxe, just because they're so cool and you get the feat to use it for free, being a dwarf.
1d10 damage is alse quite handy at lower levels.

Not in NWN1 you don't, disappointingly enough. Dwarves need to take the weapon proficiency feat just like everybody else.

As for weapons: Warhammers have the advantage that there are several enemies resistant or immune to slashing/piercing damage in the game, such as skeletal undead and clay golems, but very few that resist blunt damage.

It honestly doesn't make a huge difference and I recommend picking whatever you like the looks of, but particularly at lower levels I do recommend keeping at least one blunt weapon around to deal with skeletons.

The only time I play a Dwarf. Dwarven Defenders are tough defensively and lose nothing offensively. Very nice.

It's natural to be a Fighter as your main class to lead into DD (Favored class of Dwarves, lots of feats).

Often a good idea to have a second minor class with Tumble. Usually I do Rogue, but you are traveling with a real player Rogue, I would go Monk.

You have to be lawful anyway, Monks get cleave for free, and get much better saves than adding Rogue, and you can use Monk boots without putting skill points into UMD, and a small speed boost. With free Cleave, take Exotic Weapon Prof early and you can use any weapon, including Dwarven War axe.

Spread out 3 or 4 Monk levels (like at 1, 7, 12, 17) for tumble dumps. 6 or 7 fighter levels and as many DD levels as possible.
I was going to suggest a pure monk because of knockdown, spell resistance and high saves, and the ability to go into sneak mode and accompany the rogue. Monk has a high fun factor. But DD is an excellent choice too. Dwarven tanks, done right.
