I get that if you play as paladin and you change your aligment, you get penalties, but does it matter to other classes or races?

I'm going to replay Mask of the Betrayer, but for roleplaying reason I'm going to play as a guy who is like a neutral or even good but succumbs to the curse, eventually going to the "dark side", i.e. becoming evil.
There really is no consequences other than paladin as far as I am aware. Never really had anyone comment on my alignment when I was CE and you don't get any cool visual changes like you do with KOTOR. Now I could be wrong but this is just from personal observation

Only other one that "might" change would be cleric. And that would be dependent on your God. Doubt it though as the game thinks very linear

Thanks. Yes, it would be strange that for example, fighter would get some penalties for changing his aligment.
The only thing that anyone ever really comments on is like Drow. And they bring it up a few times in the game, bit fighters suffer no alignment penalties etc. Paladins can't progress if they're not lawful good and makes them the most restricted. Same with monks. Monks must remain lawful.
There are all kinds of class alignment restrictions:

Harper Agent: Must be Good

Paladins: Must be Lawful Good

Doomguide: Must be Lawful Neutral

Monks, Dwarven Defender: Must be Lawful

Bards, Barbarians, Arcane Trickster, Frenzied Berzerker: Must NOT be Lawful

Druids: Must have a neutral component

Pale Master, Red Wizard: Must NOT be Good

Warlocks: Must have an Evil and/or Chaotic component.

Blackguards, Assassins: Must be Evil
True but except for "restricted" movement in a few classes alignment plays no bearing in the game. Underused mechanic IMHO
Also it affects items, there are some that have alignment restrictions on them.

And there are alignment-relevant spells like Protection From Evil/Good.

But if you're looking for your alignment to have more in the way of global consequences then that would depend on the module/builder implementing them.
Unlike BG2 Companions don't react to your Alignment but choices at the end of the OC or final choices in MOTB.

Obviously Companions will react to your quest and dialog choices if they are present during those choices.

Once you get the classes you want and you don't need to advance in those classes anymore than you only need to be worried about Companions.
Thx for the replies. After paladin playthrough, I started to think if aligment shift gives somesort of gameplay penalties to other classes. Dunno why I thought
