The game starts up and runs just fine, but after a few minutes of play the game just freezes and crashes. I get a window asking if I want to wait for NWN 1 to respond or if I want to shut it down and look for a solution. The heck is going on and how can I fix it?

Same problem here, both my friend and I are having crashes after playing for 1-10 minutes.

Wow, no reply yet? The last thread I made had posts within minutes. I really like this game and would like to play it without having to force shutdown and restart it every couple of minutes. ._.

Did you try changing the name of the exe? There are answers on these forums if you look.

I did not. However, I did try changing the compatibility settings to Windows XP and it's been working fine ever since.

for me it worked when I changed the NWMAIN to NWMAIN_GAME (DOES Not have to be capital but the spelling and underscore has to be exact) you prob have an ATI graphics card so feel free if this works to look at the solutions to the questions I had about character creation and if all else fails try changing the resolution in game(If you get that far)
