This is my 3rd D&D GOG game. I'm on a Mac using Crossover, and both PS: Torment and Icewind Dale 2 ran just fine, so please don't tell me the Mac + Crossover is the problem per se.

In the NWN folder, I have 2 applications for the game; 1 is Safe Mode. Using that, I can create a character and then pick which of the 3 campaigns I want to try. I get the introductory audio while the loading screen does its thing. But when the audio has stopped and you have control of your mouse cursor, the game has not actually loaded anything beyond the loading screen.

In the non-Safe Mode version, I get the common black screen (audio only), or sometimes, a white screen (audio only). Can't get past that to do much of anything.

I've played the basic campaign years ago, but bought this b/c I never had the chance to play the 2 expansion packs.

Might have to buy/try another game in this weekend's sale if I can't get past this.

Thanks in advance.

I've never tried Crossover, but I'm running it using Wineskin. The only thing that doesn't work are the movies, which have to be disabled.

If you want to try it... in nwn.ini you'll have to change/add these lines to make it work:
FullScreen=0
AllowWindowedMode=1
SafeMovie=1
Disable Movies=1

Thank you for responding. I've seen a similar suggestion to modify the .ini file over on the Crossover forums for this game. But for the life of me, I can't find any such file. The Finder doesn't know where it is, it doesn't show in the game folder, nor in the pkg contents of the game icons. I feel like an idiot, but I just can't find it. If that changes, I'll try these modifications and report back.

Try doing a search for nwn.ini in the same Finder window that is showing the package contents. Normal Spotlight search won't work.

It's still not there. I've even spent the greater part of today downloading and installing 10.8.3, and leaving 10.7.5 behind, but ultimately--after a tease of the intro movie--nothing really changed.

I might just delete everything and start over from scratch (re-download from GOG.com...), but I need a break from this for a day or two. Thanks again. I'll report back if it ever works.

EDIT: I found the nwn.ini file thanks to a bit of Terminal help and added 1 line to the file as instructed. That fixed everything. If other Mac users are interested, check out the forum thread over at Codeweavers for NWN: Platinum Edition; "Dark screen at startup" I think it's called...
