Good afternoon everyone,

I've read a few threads the past couple days and felt compelled to ask my own. I've played games for a long time now, but I have never played Neverwinter Nights, although I was always intrigued by it. I just purchased NWN1 on GOG, so obviously not EE, and wanted to ask the veteran crowd what I should do now? Any pointers or downloads that are a must? My wife wants to play this as well, is this something we can play together? I also enjoy online play with others, any recommendations here?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey Maelstrom116, I have been looking for someone to play NWN with I have NWN and NWN 2, though I have not played the first one.
I am also looking for someone to play this with I made a post 23 days ago asking if someone wants to do coop but no one has answered this isnt a very active game in the multiplayer community but there are some of us.
If you are looking for someone to do coop with let me know id be down to try.

It's 1 AM so this explanation will probably be terrible but...

One of the main things to understand is that most games have a main campaign and people make changes to that campaign (or campaigns).

NWN has individual modules whose changes are unique to that module. So if someone completely overhauls the spell system in their custom campaign...those changes will only apply in that custom campaign (but not the official campaigns). As a result, there aren't really any key downloads for new players -- most of the changes are going to be specific to the user made modules.

However, the thing to understand is that the user-made modules are the entire draw of NWN -- there are many custom campaigns that are significantly BETTER than the official campaigns. You should really just consider the official campaigns as a warm-up before playing custom campaigns or playing on online persistent worlds (which are basically MMOs like WoW).

So yes, you can play the official campaigns with your wife.

As for others, are you looking to play through campaigns with other people, are you looking to play on persistent worlds with other people, or both?

Weren't you looking for people for NWN2?
From what I remember.

The original campaign was designed to handle multiplayer.
Shadows of Undrentide possibly was.
Hordes of the Underdark was specifically NOT designed for multiplayer.

All 3 can be played coop, but there will be more issues, especially with Hordes.

Massive third party campaign "The Aielund Saga" also supports coop, and is extremely well done.

Note to play coop, you need two copies of the game to get two distinct serial numbers.
I do not want to lose GOG a customer but NWN comes with a general SN when you first install it. You are also given a unique S/N with the game. So one can use the default S/N and the other can use the unique S/N making it possible to play coop with 1 purchase. At Least you can test it.

I thought about this before, then dismissed it.

It would be cool if someone with more than one computer can test this. It would be great if this works. Being able to play in house coop with two computers would be a reasonable capability on one purchase.

I've tested. It works. But that generic key is almost always used on other servers. So if she wants to play lots, get her a copy.

The most fun of this game is a planned adventure with a DM with a group of friends (virtual or otherwise). The you can emote anything and the dm can roll and respond.

I still remember the fun I had with you and one other person 2 years ago even tho it was not a long experience because of my timing problems.
