As I rarely venture this far outside the general forums, I've decided to see what what might happen if I suggest this here in the temple.

The suggestion is simple: If Galaxy is the fiscal burden it appears to be, then it should be the onus of the users to provision funding for it's continued development.

Either the costs are offset or even improved upon, or the whole thing is a wash and Galaxy becomes the next product on a milk carton reading, "MISSING: HAVE YOU SEEN ME?"

It's really simple.

Too cheap; it's costing GOG money.
I made some time ago, titled:

How to make GOG Galaxy profitable so that it can be developed upon indefinitely.

Here is what I had to say in my post:

----------------------------------------------

The Gog Galaxy team should prioritize finding ways to make Gog Galaxy profitable without the need to just sell games.

My thinking into this is more about how the team can find more ways to fund the development of this great platform.

for eg:
steam has trading cards these cards are for giving your profile Badge. These badges raise your steam level.
These cards need to be traded so that you can make a full set and Steam (Valve) takes a cut for each of these cards traded.
The only way I see Gog Galaxy being able to take on Steam and help with the development of this platform is if the team can find new ways to help fund the development of this platform.
Make new ways of finding these funds by creating things like trading cards for eg (do anything and do things better than steam) and build out an economy within this platform as soon as you guys can.

This will help greatly with the development

I hope this idea helps you guys and keep up the great work!!

--------------------------------------------------

A subscription is not a bad idea, but you need to find a way to create an economy within GOG Galaxy that is profitable enough to keep development going even if GOG falls, but the clients can stay afloat.

So, as far as I understand Gog Galaxy is a launcher for everything. You know what already does that, runs on linux (lwhich GOG are for good reasons struggling with), and is way more streamlined? Its called Lutrisand Heroic. If GOG wants a good launcher, they could just contribute to lutris and integrate their Save Backup system into that instead of a 700 or so Mb big Advertisement board with game launching abilities, and just make their Backups a Paid feature (since, you know, Cloud storage, however small, is still something you could sell to those still suffering from "Accidently-deleted-my-700-Hour-Skyrim-Save-PTSD", and also something no one realistically needs who knows how to just c&p their save folder)

Or, if you want to go all out, just delete their whole Galaxy thing, make it a background service that just connects to their Servers via rsync and syncs every time the game is stopped (since GOG can see that with their integration dlls)

I just think GOG and their Offline Installers are more than enough, and therefore they realistically dont even need an own launcher since theres already Lutris and Heroic, and they already do exactly that.
