Just as the title says, I really really want to buy this game, and the sale isn't helping. I'm just not sure if I would be wasting time.

It *should* work straight out of the box without compatibility mode. The compatibility listed is just a guide. I'd imagine 9/10 things that work on 7 should also work on 8. The game was re-released just before GOG started to add Windows 8 to the game cards.

If you do ever have problems, support or the forums are very good at helping out.
