So I just bought a bunch of id stuff in the Steam weekend sale - couple of questions

There seem to be a few Wolfenstein 3D source ports around - are any non-broken and which is best?

I noticed that the 2009 gritty reboot that was just called 'Wolfenstein' was not only not in the sale but not on Steam at all (not in the UK at least) What's that all about? Was it ever on any DD site and is it likely to be back at some point?

Cheers guys
BTW Sorry to be promoting Steam stuff on GOG again but I'm afraid of their forums, they sound just awful and you guys are awesome!

Unfortunately, Wolfenstein 2009 was sold on Steam before - it was even a part of the iD pack they had a couple of years ago. (that was a deal and a half, and my better part got it for me as a present :))

It was one of the many games which got removed when Bethesda acquired iD, I think, and one of the few not resurfaced again. There is hope that it may be re-released again later when the new Wolfenstein game is released.

I am not aware of any DD store selling it at the moment.

ECWolf is the one to go with; it has the best widescreen support and handles Spear of Destiny correctly.

Thanks a lot, if I could give 5 reps to you too I would!
Edit: Actually, nvm, I'll put this in its own thread.

Tried ECWolf out last night and I have to agree, it is the best Wolf3D port. v1.2.2 just got released less than a day ago, too. Can't wait for ECBlake though, and he might port Rise of the Triad too, being on the same (albeit modified) engine.

That looks awesome, I'm going to have to try that.

Try out the ECWolf Tech Demo mod too (can be downloaded from the ECWolf site). I just had great fun playing that.
Absolutely go for ECWolf, fantastic port. I took this opportunity to pick up the only Wolfenstein game I was missing (barring the very first two, RPG and console ports), Spear of Destiny. Wolfenstein 2009 is a damn fine game too, be sure to pick it up when it comes back to Steam.
Is there some mod that adds an Automap?? some of the later levels are too mazy since everything looks the same...at least the bodies stay put ;)

I do believe that an automap is planned for a later release of ECWolf, simply because the Mac version of Wolf3D had an automap, so he wants to implement it for completeness.

that would be awesome. It's probably the only reason i never finished this game. I Always would get lost and get bored wandering around looking for the key and when i finally found it i couldn't find the right door....

If you are still interested, try out the latest build here (the one dated 6th Sept 2013).

It has the automap function you were looking for.
