I'm getting a new processor for my computer. I finally have enough money, and the one I'm looking at looks pretty badass. Geek Squad will put it in for me when I get it in.
The two questions I have are:
1. If I have an EVGA NFORCE 680I SLI MB REV D MOTHERBOARD and my current processor is a D- CORE 2 DUO 2.00 GHZ E4400 2M CACHE 800 PROCESSOR, will this processor work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036
2. Is it a good upgrade? As in, do you think with my very powerful video card I would be able to run the latest games at top quality? I have an NVIDIA GEFORCE 9800 GT with 512 MB.

Judging from this comparison diagram from intel's site:
http://ark.intel.com/ComparePrint.aspx?copy=true
The biggest benefits of going from your CPU to this new one are the slightly faster FSB speed, 3 times as much cache, having the Virtualization Technology, (which might come in handy if you want to run older games virtually) and its smaller (45mm compared to 65mm) lithography. Doesnt seem to be much more expensive either. I'd say its a good upgrade, if you want to stay in the core 2 line.

Sweet, but will I be able to replace my old one with this new one? Is it the right model for my motherboard and everything?

Yeah, that mainboard has a socket 775, and both core2 CPUs , the one you have right now and the new one, are socket 775. They should both work.

Anytime man! : )
The manufacturer's site shows that your motherboard is compatible with an E8500, but that the latest BIOS update is required the ensure compatibility. This means that depending on what BIOS version your motherboard shipped with you may need to flash the BIOS to the latest version or else you could run into compatibility issues (most likely the system just wouldn't post, although there can be more subtle issues as well).
As for your second question the E8500 is an excellent processor, and unless you have some other low-end component bottlenecking your system you should see a definite performance increase from the upgrade.
