so I opened up an account for Tetris Attack on twitter for my website (TetrisAttack.org), and for a few days I didn't get many followers. I just didn't think there were that many people interested in Tetris Attack.
this morning, I check my email and my inbox looks like this for 3 pages.
Image is too large for attaching, so just click here

Spam? People who follow other people in the hope that they will follow them back, grossly inflating their Twitter stats?

Nobody cares. That's the thing. It's all about the e-peen.

seems kind of odd that over 100 people would just randomly find my site page and not my personal page.
I'm sorry but I think those are part spambots, part people who have no intention of actually following your site. :(

Yes sadly, and other people make a killing apparently from "selling" followers. The amount of spam bot followers you get too is rather annoying these days.

there's no doubt that there are spam bots and people who are particularly uninterested - but I've got a little hope that maybe, just maybe, some of them found out that I had given away codes to games and wanted free games...
and that they'll check out the site because that's where I'm going to post the codes! hahaha!!
Well, that's the odd random flow of teh interwebz.
Sometimes weird things happen. Maybe 4chan spotted your Twitter and decided to follow it or something. I'm leaning towards the spambot answer though since your forum doesn't have that much activity.
Last month I posted a comment on Reddit that got the highest upvotes I've seen on there. No idea how that happened, since there are far more funny/insightful comments made on there.

People can get hooked on just about any kind of stat boosting imaginable.
There are actually people on Twitter selling ways for you to get more followers. We have had e-mail spam and text message spam so it was only natural Twitter would be hit.
