PoSSeSSeDCoW: So you have to be more mature to drive a car than to have sex?

Hey - driving a car takes some skill ;P !
avatar
PoSSeSSeDCoW: That's interesting. Also, allowing people to start driving the same time they can start (legally) drinking? That seems like a recipe for trouble.

Driving while drunk is illegal ;P !
BTW - drunk guys on bikes might be less dangerous, but they sure make for some hilarious stories... Like all those guys @ 5 or 6‰ who crash into a car and flee the scene, because they're basically too drunk to realize they are (or, at least, SHOULD be) dead :P.

cogadh: I think you are assuming that a law stating that the age of consent is 18 implies that it is equivalent to the country's moral standard.

Nope. I never said that law has anything to do with morality.
avatar
cogadh: The thing is, there is no national age of consent here.

I KNOW, I've seen the map I linked you. Most western states are marked "18", though.
avatar
cogadh: For example, just as Poland's age of consent law may be different from Germany's (I don't know if it really is)

Just check the damn map. It is. It's 14 in Germany. It's even as low as 13 in Spain. The point is - it's mostly 15 or 14. In the USA - it's mostly 18 or 17.
avatar
cogadh: (...) New York's is different from California's (I also don't know if it really is, I live in Michigan).

Checked the Big Apple - it's 17. I knew for a while that California has it @ 18...
avatar
cogadh: Basically the whole idea of the "age of consent" being 18 is usually just attached to the "legal adult" concept for convenience sake (...)

For whose convenience sake ? The lawyers' ? That doesn't make it any less pointless !
avatar
cogadh: No one really expects mature teens under the age of 18 to not have sex and no one is really going to be arrested for doing it (...)

Yet - there is a law there that states otherwise. THIS is what I consider wrong.
You should never have laws that are not enforced, neither those that don't make any sense.
avatar
cogadh: Believe it or not, most states actually have a parental consent clause (...)

And if the parents don't like their daughter's boyfriend they might call the cops on him. I've heard of such things, although - to be honest - I have no idea how often does this really happen.
I simply know that when anyone asks a suspiciously young camwhore about her age, the chat is usually flooded with "18" and "I heard 18" ;P. Came through my mind, so I made a slightly offtopic remark on it.
PLEASE KEEP IT ONTOPIC!!!
This thread is about indie games on GOG...

I'd really like to see some good indie games on GOG, like the Bridge Builder / Pontifex series (around 2000-2002), Uplink (2001) and Gish (2004).
They might as well be qualified as Good "OLD" Games, considering the following titles which are already available:
Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time (2003)
Beyond Good And Evil (2003)
Far Cry (2004)
