While the games are cheap enough here at their normal selling price (yay! for recovering exchange rate!). I can see where pkt-zer0's point is going. We're not saying it should be cheaper, but rather the deal is good enough as is.
For me though: These deals bring in the 'Shiney Things' factor. It's highlighted and mentioned on the main page, and makes me want to get it. The $1 off helps this as well, but is not a big deciding factor.
Review contests and other competing promotions would sound better, as this is a loss of the total of one or two games, rather that the total discount of everyone buying the promotion. Note: my economics skills are, well, nearly non-existent really, and I know there is more in play here.
(In these games case, I have two copies on CD already, else it would be a given)
