It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

[UPDATE] We've concluded this testing, the post below is out of date. Great thanks to all who submitted the results. Now we're back to fine tune all this stuff :).
---------------------
Hi all,
We are currently working on improving the download speeds for you, we'd like to ask you for a little help with the testing :)
1. First and foremost, make sure that you have Beneath a Steel Sky added to your account - the game is free and pretty awesome by the way so no reason not to grab it ;).
2. Click the first download link below and note the download speeds. When the download finishes, do the same for the second link and note down the result.
DOWNLOAD 1
DOWNLOAD 2
3. Post your download speeds for "Download 1" and "Download 2" in this topic. If you have any other observations (for example one of the downloads dropped out or you got to 100% of your downlink speed etc) please post them as well.
Also, if you can retry the test on different internet connection (for example at work or at school ;) please do so.
Thank you in advance for your time and all the reports! We strongly believe that with this info we will be able to make GOG.com download speeds even better for all!
Cheers!

1. 900KB - 1MB Closer to 1MB overall.
2. 1MB - 1.3MB Roughly 1.1MB overall. Pretty close to the fastest I've seen on this connection.
Well, just for you guys, I added this to my collection.
Using browser, not the gog.downloader, I get :
Download 1 : 580-746KB/S (not quite my full bandwidth, but close enough at max).
Download 2 : 602-821KB/S (Better speeds, spent more time at the higher end).
Download 1 was 1 MB/s
Download 2 was a bit slower, about 800-900 KB/s
Download 1 450 Kb/s
Download 2 320 Kb/s
I download both at work. I think we have a 20 Mb ADSL connection.
For the first download the speed was in a range from 394 Kb/s to 470 Kb/s but most of the time the speed was rounded 450 Kb/s.
For the second download the speed was in a low range, between 290 Kb/s and 374 Kb/s. In this case the speed was much less stable, with many ups and downs.

Download 1: Peaked at 2MB/s, average speed was 1.4MB/s
Download 2: Peaked at 2.3MB/s, average speed was 1.3MB/s
Download 1: 800-1000KB/s, constantly swaying up and down
Download 2: 1.3MB/s steady
Download 1: 680 KB/s average, peak around 750 KB/s
Download 2: 960 KB/s average, peak around 975 KB/s
None of the downloads were completely stable so they went up and down a few tens of KB.
Work:
Download 1: Between 1 and 1.4 MB/s
Download 2: Between 3.5 and 3.9 MB/s (wow!)
Home (3MB xDSL):
Both averaged around 350KB/s, but Download 2 fluctuated a lot.

ADSL2+ , but It's Australia :|
Download 1: 80 kB/sec average
Download 2: 170 kB/sec average
Download 1: 650-670 Kbyte/s
Download 2: 350-450 Kbyte/s
On what should be a 100 Mbit/s connection, no modem, ethernet jack in the wall.
I'll try later and see if it changes.
Download 1: average 312 (ranged from 300-315) Kps
Download 2: less variance, average 320 Kps
This was on my work computer and those are very good speeds (at/near the top) for our bodged-together network.
Link 1 - Speed ranged from 217 kb/s to 356 kb/s -- 350 is generally what I would consider max for my poor net connection.
Link 2 - Speed ranged from 146 kb/s to 362 kb/s
Link 1 took a total of 03:49 to download
Link 2 took a total of 03:58 to download
So while Link 1 didn't hit as high a speed a Link 2, it did manage to keep a higher speed more consistently and for longer. Making Link 1 far better for me.
I'll add that my connection is an ADSL 10 m/bit one but we're so far away from the nearest exchange that the connection loses most of its speed before it reaches here.

1) 1.1MB/s, finished the last half at 1.2MB/s
2) 1.8MB/s rock solid consistent the whole time.
Cable connection, BTW
At work:
Download 1: 1.6 - 1.8 MB/sec, pretty steady, mostly 1.7 MB/sec.
Download 2: 200 - 600 kB/sec, fluctuating wildly throughout the download.
[EDIT] Using Firefox from Denmark.
