Ahh I'm the wrong person to ask about steam, I've only got 2 games on there. From what I remember, the steam version of spore had securom and there's no mention of it on the game page so I'm guessing they don't.
None of the EA games on Steam have SecuROM.
I maintain a fairly accurate list of third party DRM titles:
http://bansama.com/b/steam/drm-regional-restrictions-and-pricing-on-steam/
As for disclosure of DRM, Valve do, but not until a day or two after release.
Going to go and try the demo now, if I like it I may preorder, but I really don't care for either Sam & Max or Strongbad.

OK, here is the final answer regarding DRM on Wallace and Gromit from Telltale directly.

Hi,
Don't worry, I totally understand your reservations :)
Although we do use Securom, we don't use the protection level that installs
device drivers, so all Securom code is contained within the game's .exe and will
be removed when you uninstall. We also allow 20 activations per machine on a
maximum of 20 machines, which is generally plenty for most people (though we're
always happy to provide extra activations if people need them). We all play
games, and we do try to make the activation as unobtrusive as possible :)
For extra peace of mind, we do give away the collector's DVD at the end of every
season of games for the cost of shipping. That doesn't have any online
activation, it just requires that you have the disc in the drive while you play
the games.
And no, the Steam version has no Securom protection, just Steam's native DRM.
Hope that answers your questions. If you have any more, just let me know!
Regards,
Doug Tabacco

Very nice! I wish more companies would handle SecuROM like that.
I did buy the subscription deal from Telltale. I downloaded the free Sam & Max episode, and the activation was completely painless.

Now that's new... and in a bad way... the CD version of Sam & Max season 1 or 2 didn't had any copy protection and didn't require the CD to be in the drive to play the game.
Is the DVD versions of sam & max you're talking about the retail ones or the free from telltale ones? I used to have the retail one distributed by jowood and that had no need for the disc in the drive (unless I cracked it as a matter of course and immediately forgot) but I've not gotten the one from telltale. Besides, that's the easiest form of DRM to bypass so at least for me its no drama

See what I mean about telltale having good customer service?

I have the free ones from Telltale and both don't have any copy protection, so either it's something new for W&C or the Telltale guy made a mistake.
Also, having played the full demo (instead of just watching the trailer), I have to say I'm very, VERY impressed with Wallace's actor. In fact, I'd say that in the entire history of iconic voice artists' successors, this is the most seamless transition.
If I hadn't been told it wasn't Peter Sallis, I honestly don't think it would've occured to me that it was someone else. The resemblance is uncanny. Sure, there are plenty of moments where he doesn't quite nail it, but the overall effect comes across perfectly.
