I'm interested in buying the game Trine. The game is available on Steam, but also on GamesPlanet.
As I usually (except on GOG) don't buy digital content, I have two questions:
- what is your opinion about GamesPlanet (DRM, authentification, etc...) ?
- the boxed version (the one I would like to buy): is it associated to Steam or GamesPlanet? Will I need an account on some internet platform to launch the game?

Well you've jujst gotten me bloody interested in the game. Never heard much about ot before but just watched the video and said "ooh thats clever" several times.
Anyone else got it? Reckon its worth the full asking price?

I don't know gamesplanet but retail version is using Securom Disc Check DRM. I bought the game from Steam and I have no problem with this game.

The beautiful main theme used in the video is also downloadable on the composer website.

Well, so I will not buy it on Steam nor Gameplanet.
The only chance for me to get the game seems to buy the retail boxed version and patch it...
Why the hell do I've got to use pirate techniques to play a game without being bothered??? Sick sad world...

Meh, it's just a disk check. If implemented properly it's really no big deal.

It's just a principle, I refuse to be forced to proove that I've bought something.

Yeah, it sucks, but I don't think most publishers want to do that..be angry at the pirates. :)
I figure buying the games as they are now (assuming the DRM isn't horrible) will help lessen it in the future. Makes sense scientifically, no?

Copyrights infringement is just of many conditions of the circumstance publishers operate under. Blaming pirates may be accurate, but it's no less of a waste of time than blaming the weather on the Sun. If publishers don't like it, the only thing they can do is to start operating under conditions where copyrights infringement isn't applicable. That's what DRM attempts to do. It just doesn't work.
No. It's just one of many factors. Additionally, you're just one of a great many customers, most of whom don't know and don't care about DRM.
But whatever. For what it's worth, Trine is a great game. If you like platformers, brilliant delivery and physics puzzles, don't let a CD check stop you.

We are asked to prove ourselves innocent all the time, and are treated as potential criminals all the time. Cops on the side of the road, detectors in storefronts, cameras in the ceiling, etc. etc..
It is sad, but is it the faualt of Steam/SecuROM/Cops/Stores, or is it the fault of pirates, drunk drivers, shoplifters and other criminals that force these checks upon us? I would say the latter.
Also, Steam DRM is fairly harmless, I would get it there.

Same reason we put locks on our doors -- a lousy minority ruin it for everybody.
I much prefer SecuROM to Steam, generally speaking. But preference, I guess. I just find Steam to be nasty DRM rolled up in a pretty package. :P

I read an article somewhere that the developers actually didn't want to put DRM on this game, but they couldn't get a publisher without it. Played the demo of this a week or two back, pretty sweet. awesome atmosphere

I like SecuROM in a weird way too, because it is easy to patch out unofficially (can I say that here?). Steam you are stuck with forever.

I'm quite happy to have a cop watch over me while I buy a game at a store. I'll be quite unhappy if he follows me home to watch over me while I install and play it.
