I agree with the many who think Rolfe's material's made a huge dip in quality. He obviously isn't a very good writer, isn't so hot at coming up with original jokes, isn't so hot at editing or film-making, and isn't very knowledgeable about what he's reviewing beyond what an obsessed kid would know. Doesn't mean he's a douche, just sloppy, not putting the extra effort into what he's doing.
Spoony's the opposite, and NC's pretty close.
(Although I will say, Spoony's LP of Ripper got pretty stale. It was simply a retread, reusing the jokes he made Internet famous in his earlier videos, providing next to no new material.)
I don't pay a lot of attention to Yahtzee. Not bad, but nothing memorable, nor creative (liked his little Deus Ex ditty, tho). I've heard him on the radio a couple times, too, and he always seems to make a complete ass out of himself, really pretentious and arrogant, while not really knowing what he's talking about.
I'm going to toss in that I'm a bit drunk to hide behind and excuse anything stupid I just said.
I like Yahtzee. Spoony, AVGN... are kind of dull.
Yahtzee on the other hand always amuses me. And he adores Silent Hill 2 while making due note of the flaws and then effortlessly throwing them out the window. :D
I am on the Yahtzee bandwagon. I don't particularly enjoy AVGN, never really watched Spoony or any of the other guys but I have followed Yahtzee since before he began with his Zero Punctuation stuff; hell, even before he began on Trilby's Notes game, and 6DAS. One could say I am pretty big Yahtzee fan.

The whole deal with Yahtzee is way too childish for me to appreciate: Finding the obvious flaws in great games like System Shock 2 and Silent Hill 2 that anyone with half a brain can spot, then just over-exaggerating them like they're the end of the world and make the games terrible, which they are not.
Ripping of games that hardly deserve it is not fun, it's rather painful to watch instead.
With AVGN and alike, ripping bad stuff is hilarious especially when overdone, well all laugh at each other's failures we like it or not. But I can't figure what kind of mindset is required for ripping at some of the most appreciated games by fans and critics alike.
Words cannot describe how much I cannot stand the sound of nostalgia critics voice.

Actually, he calls Silent Hill 2 one of his favorite games of all time, and goes out of his way in an episode to talk about how much he loves it. His website backs this up. I'm not sure about System Shock 2, but if I remember correctly, he didn't like BioShock because he believed it to be a rip-off of System Shock 2.

Red_Avatar: What, no Yahtzee? :P Isn't he the pinnacle of witty reviews of crap :P Well, with the occasional positive review among them ;).

Yahtzee plays in a different league. Well, for me anyway. He is not acting shit up, he is honest. Just honest.

I am pretty sure he has never ripped on either System Shock 2. He has ripped on BioShock for pretty much being System Shock 2 underwater but still complimented it with that it was well-placed, beautiful, 'ten-on-the-judges-score-card' kick in the balls. Not sure about Silent Hill 2, though, although I seem to remember he only hated everything that came after that game except for one title, which eludes me at this point.
Wow, that sounded way more fanboyish then it should. In my defence, however, I really enjoyed BioShock, it was 'shooting-bees-out-hands' fantastic.

Dizzy Quest, or something like that.

Dizzy Quest isn't a Silent Hill title, which was what I meant. I seem to remember he hated every single Silent Hill title that came after SH2 bar one, which I can't remember the name of. All in all anyways, I know too much about Yahtzee. :-P

If I remember correctly, he didn't hate 3. He thought it was "okay". 4 is what really drove him up the wall.
Nope can't stand Yahtzee these days. He started off good with reviews like Painkiller (guns that shoot shuriken and lightning) but he's now playing to his crowd. Everyone expects him to swear a lot and hate everything therefore thats all he does. Consider some of the truly good games he has hated like Mass Effect and Batman: Arkham Asylum. I can't wait to see what complete cowpat he comes up with to review Mass Effect 2.
Funny? Yes. Right? Not very often.

The AVGN seems pander in similar ways. In some of his reviews, he isn't even creative with his swears. It's like a Do-It-Yourself-Angry-Review: Combine the words "fuck" and "shit" with other phrases. Done.

AH, I don't know, he is very precise about many of the next-gen consoles, for instance "Darksiders".

He has all the right to do so, it's his style and he was pretty much the first one to come up with that.
