One game that I would like to see ported to the current PC OS is this game. It was a totally fun game. JC

You can play it on XP, I think. I forget if I used compatability or dosbox. I have a copy somewhere. I should ebay it. I thought it was awesome when it came out but found it absolutely unplayable when I tried it again.
You want to see it on GOG? Use the Wishlist.

From what I've heard it doesn't work too well with DOSbox, although I haven't tried it myself.

Don't believe everything you hear.
LINK DELETED (GOOGLE IT)
It works perfectly fine with DOSbox, and can be found for free in the link above as System Shock Portable.

You might want to remove that link. So-called "abandonware" like that is not legal and the GOG guys would prefer if we kept things as legal as possible around here.
Can you private message me the link. THANKS,JC

Both the so-called portable version and the original on DOSBox work fine. The portable version has improved graphics.
I like that game as mostly anything Richard Garriot ever produced, but I think it could be much better. It had a nice story and graphics back then, but other than that it's seconds of shooting, hours of wandering, getting stuck, not seeing anyone anywhere... and people even call it a roleplaying game. The shooting doesn't play too well either.

I actually always (<-edit, not never, that doesnt make any sence...) thought of "not seeing anyone" as a pretty nice part of the game - also, at least at medium combat difficulty, there was always enough enemies around. However, what made the game so awesome was that you didnt feel like you were running trough linear corridors. You felt like running on a space station with its own story. That game had awesome atmosphere - ehm, it didnt, until I turned off the music. And for RPG? Well... Your character somewhat advances, but yes, Ive got to agree with you on that one.

It's a good game. I think I like to point its flaws because I picked it up about ten years after release, which gave me time to read all kind of hype over it. I probably expected something more, is all. If the shooting played great, I think I wouldn't be disappointed at all.
After Doom was released, I wonder why there were still games that made you move and turn by clicking more or less on the right direction...

Well SS's control scheme requires some getting used to, it's not bad at all thou. It lets you do everything using mouse, adds some tension (You actually have to reload manually), and lets you do way more stuff with less keyboard shortcuts needed. After I got used to it, I actually PREFER it to controls of SS2 - it cannot, of course, be used in fast-paced games, but it seems pretty much perfect for system shocks. Oh, and I have played SS1 for the first time about ... 2, 3 years ago?
SS1 or SS2?
I regret that I have played neither, but which one is considered the better game?
