After reading a bit about the game I decided to go see how the reception for it has been in the home market (with Russian gamers) and was surprised to discover that it is diametrical to the one I've seen here and on GAF.
Russian gamers seem to hate it for the exact same reason others like it. It is not serious. It represents one of the historical figures in a disrespectful light (honestly didn't know that would be an issue with Stalin of all people) and so on. They especially disliked that video of Stalin dancing apparently.
Anyway to cut a long story short here's hoping it does well in the west because apparently there isn't a lot it can hope for on the home front. Which is sad really since it is the first more or less comprehensive game that is actually humorous to come out from Russian developers in a while that isn't an adventure game.

That sounds very plausible to me. It is my impression that Stalin is still considered a national hero by many Russians - you know, for winning WWII, strengthening the Soviet union by annexing new soviet republics and controlling most of eastern Europe, steadily improving the economy, and so on... The bad stuff (like the purges and deportations) are easily forgotten. More information
Back to the subject at hand; this game appears to be made of pure awesome and win!

I am Russian I know his history and the history of my nation as well as greatly respect it (history that is, not the cult of personality). I don't see a problem with this game. I think it is healthy to laugh at oneself and not take reality too lightly. Than again I am just one person and apparently in the minority which is sad.
I hope by the time they release the developers will be able to sway the public opinion to a more optimistic one as well as prove that they are not all just talk and giggles and alongside a light hearted premise they can deliver an upstanding strategy game.
I know I will be trying it for sure.
