Hi,

I have a group of friends that would like to once a week get together online (over hamachi network or similar) and play games.

We have been playing FFXI for ~10 years and are looking to drop the monthly fee and the game. Since it had an 11.95/month pricetag on it I figure people will be ok with buying some cheap older games we could play over hamachi or similar.

I just am not sure what games will run in windows 7/8 and also work over a hamachi network (or similar) or have open servers still running that we could all connect to.

Usually 6-8 people show up, so looking for multiplayer games that can handle at least 6, unless we move to a ladder scenario.

I was thinking of things like

Unreal Tournament (1 or 2)
Starcraft
Civilizations (some number)

I was hoping people could make some game recommendations.

Appreciate your insight!
How about Hedgewars, a pretty good Worms clone.

Or Soldat, which is realtime Worms, or Quake 2D.

Edit: Both are free!

Total Annihilation.

There, weeks of fun
Counterstrike
DIablo 2, Warcraft III, UT 2004 and Counter-Strike are the games I've played most in multiplayer, try those.

Also, give the Worms games a shot, I'm currently having a ball with Worms 2 .
Awesome, thanks! I will definitely look into those!
I cannot recommend the Heroes of Might and Magic series enough. In my opinion, the series is best to worst in this order, 2 5 3 1 4. I absolutely hated HOMM4, but 2 and 5 are the best. 2 is best because of memories, 5 is great on more modern machines. 3 is good as well, and is generally more balanced and expanded than 2, but the change in art style kind of threw me.
If you like TBS, give Battle for Wesnoth a shot too, it's freeware .
I have no idea if you can get the game or get it to work on newer systems but we used to turn our University computer lab into the grandest Spectre VR fun fest once a week - oh so long ago. ;-)
Fair warning though, TBS games over LAN tend to get tedious. I haven't played too much multiplayer for long, but I still like Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. As for strategy games, you can try something like Age of Empries or from gog, Seven Kingdoms :).
