I picked up a few movies from the bargain bin and I felt all were worth the price I paid for them:

The Hurt Locker
Jarhead
The Kingdom
Green Zone

The latter 3 came in a 3-in-1 Blu-Ray pack for 8 bucks. As noted, I felt all were worth watching and I didn't feel my money was wasted. Nothing much else to add to the list, as everything I'd have suggested has already been listed.

And wow, some of you guys are overly critical, IMO. But tastes differ...
It's not the best movie for getting a feeling of war, but I loved "the devil's brigade". It's so... commandos. Probably because I was actually playing commandos when I watched it the first time. The infiltration mission is just lovely.
Definitely watch both Casualties of War and Hamburger Hill. If you can stomach Vietnam war movies after those, good on you.
This topic is still alive? Thanks guys ;-)

This year's christmas is gonna be bloody :P
I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard good things about Bronenosets Potyomkin (Battleship Potemkin).

As a war movie, I would not recommend it.

It is an oustanding movie if you have some knowledge on history of cinema (for instance), but on its own, you'll probably get bored.

It is pretty good but it's more like a "THESE WORK CONDITIONS SUCK" kind of movie. You also have to not mind that it's pure political propaganda.

It does remind me... I guess(?) Birth of a Nation counts as a war film too. I liked it but I could easily see why people would hate it (some of it is about the civil war but quite a bit of it is about the KKK) but I decided to cut it some slack since it was made in a time where a film like this wouldn't be as controversial.
Here's a few Australian war movies that I've really enjoyed;

Breaker Morant
Gallipoli
The Lighthorsemen
