Has anyone mentioned cognition? -its not quite exactly the same vein but *shrugs* was heavy rain ps3 only?
everything else i wanted to mention has already been said! short of adding my recommendations for them, am not sure what else to suggest.

i know murder she wrote did a few spin off point n click games but that REALLY is P&C games ><
My aunt suggested the Professor Layton games but there DS only as far as i know ><
Covert Action, broken sword, gemini rue, the CSI games, syberia - all recommended by a friend.

Just trying to come up with something that might scratch your itch even if its off the main path, i hate that when you need to play more and cant find anything the same!

Broken Sword is quite detectivey, in a 'Da Vinci Code before there WAS a Da Vinci Code' way, the extra content in the HD version has it start as far more of a murder mystery before getting into Templars and Hashashin and that too!
Sherlock Holmes games! :)
I enjoyed the Blackwell Bundle (although I haven't played the fourth yet). These games are short adventures where you have to investigate a series of deaths with the help of a ghost. More than about finding criminals, these investigations are about unraveling the stories so the ghosts can rest in peace. Very enjoyable. I loved the characters and the puzzles are not overly complicated (which was great for me because I suck at this kind of game).

amok: Thread hijack. I just remembered a detective game on the C64. The cases where semi-random and each potential murderer was modelled on famous detectives, for example Poirot, Ms. Marple, Holmes and Marlow. The main screens were like different files where you searched for clues, and you could call the suspects and talk to them on the phone. I seem to remember that the main music was "When I'm 64", for some reason. But at the moment I just can not remember the name of it....
Edit: Quite sure, you mean "Killed until Dead":

You know that the contest is closed, a winner was picked, and the discussion is pretty much dead except when you bump things? Please let it die.
