So: I love horror movies. Not really for the scare factor, when I break it down to the base building blocks, I love horror movies for the same reason I loved Scooby-Doo: I like mystery. It doesn't even have to be a good one at that, I won't say no to a proper B-horror movie, as long as it takes itself at least a bit seriously. I'm not a very picky person. However, I seem to be running dry as of late - so I'm creating this topic. Try to give me names of some recent horror movies (at least 2005+) and I will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling of helping me in return.

But I am warning you, it's sick movie.

Sick yes, it's French after all, but not much of a horror movie. I didn't find it scary and I am not bulletproof when it comes to horror movies.
You've probably already seen it, but The Machinist is fantastic. It's from 2004, so not too far back.
Define "recent" .

Licurg: Define "recent" .
He said 2005+. I broke the rules :P
2008 - The Burrowers
Horror/Western
Kind of an odd interesting little film, a bit slow paced. So pioneers are going missing during the night & at first Natives are blamed. But its really a type of predator that is now starving & maybe even dying out as a species due to the annihilation of the buffalo they used to subsist on. They've moved on to hunting people.
How about Quarantine ? It's an American remake of REC .
Kill List (more psychological / macabre)
Midnight Meat Train
Neprijatelj (aka "The Enemy")

Just three I've seen recently I enjoyed for differing reasons.
Will also check through my list and see if theres anything worth noting to you.
I loved "The Woman In Black." I tend to prefer "spooky" movies that are atmospheric rather than gross. "The Others" was quite enjoyable too.
Well, "The Conjuring" (2013) is pretty good. Perhaps not terrifying, but definitely not bad, and you can still catch it in theaters.

There were several popular-ish series continuations around that time like: Saw II-VII, Final Destination III-V, and Hostel II. I personally liked "1408" (with John Cusack 2007, preferably the directors cut) and "House of 9" (2005) had an interesting ending. You might even consider "Case 39" (2009).

If you're willing to go back a few more years, High Tension (2003) kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the movie, if I recall correctly.

I'll second the recommendation for 1408.

I'll also recommend Sinister (2012). I'd never heard of it, but stumbled across it in a store, thought it looked interesting, and bought it. I found it... goddamn scary, actually.

I'm also very fond of The Descent (2005), although I found the sequel to be a disappointment.

I enjoyed the first two Paranormal Activity movies. Unfortunately, the third one was a joke. I haven't watched the fourth one yet, but people I've spoken to about it tell me it's even worse than the third. The first two movies were absolutely brilliant though.

Hey Fenix, this one is from 2003: Darkness Falls although I never saw it myself (or heard of it) until recently, and for some reason I just liked it...might have had something to do with the lead actor Chaney Kley, who I found to be a very sympathetic, unlikely hero. Strangely enough, he died just a few years after this film under strange circumstances, while still very young....I think the last I had heard, his father said it was sleep apnea... Some good music in the movie also. Anyway, thought I'd mention it. Quarantine, that Licurg mentioned above, wasn't all bad either. I think a second one came out, but never saw it. If you like the man's inhumanity to man angle, the Hostel movies can be pretty entertaining

Shit, almost forgot...one of my favorites: Feast The second one was okay, but the first one is a favorite of mine

Descent 2 was a hilarious movie. Watched it at a Halloween party last year. That old sheriff makes the film worth it. A monster sneaks up on him & he just slaps the crap out if it until it flees in terror. He spends most of the film being badass & untouchable. Until he forgets its a horror film & handcuffs himself to the crazy chick. Within ten seconds of that he's dangling off a cliff, a monster on each leg chewing on his ankles, & his cop friend hacking away at his arm. Yes, if you watch this film do it with friends.
