EDIT 2: Ah, wrong way around, apparently the forums need backslashes escaped...

Surprisingly, this might not be quite as pointless as I initially assumed... the disappearing Backslashes point to the text not being correctly escaped which could open the door to all kinds of security havoc ... or not... but it's worth investigating.
