After seeing a different thread, it made me think of other forms of game playing.
For me, one of the things I found myself involved in for about the last 4 years is board gaming.
In actuality, computer gaming drove me in that direction. I did not like the way games came out unfinished and never receiving the needed patches along with the whole DRM thing that started with Starforce. These issues caused me to look for another outlet for my gaming time.
I have had a blast collecting and playing some very cool board games that maybe many have not heard about.
This is one of the best sites for board gaming; if not the best. It is huge and has tons of users and involvement.
Board Game Geek
If you like RPGs you should consider checking out the game Descent: Journeys in the Dark. It has 4 expansions now and is very cool game of setting up dungeons and playing either as a hero (people play together as a group of heroes), or the Overlord that tries to stop the heroes.
There are games for Starcraft, Halo, World of Warcraft, Age of Empires III (other computer base board games), and tons of other great games that have no connection to computer games.
To name a few, Galaxy Trucker, Nexus Ops, Twilight Imperium III, War of the Ring, etc. there are literally 1,000s of games listed on the BGG link above.
I personally have what would be considered a small collection of about 125+ board/card games.
Here is one board game publisher that makes great games.
Fantasy Flight Games
The one cool thing about board games is even after you play them there is no DRM and you can always resell them; normally at more than you paid for them.
So are there any other forms of gaming that gog players are involved in regularly?

I work with alot of Portugeuse immigrants who taught me to play a card came called (dunno if I'm spelling this correctly) ginastra. It's played with two decks of cards and can be played in teams if you have four players. It's similiar to rummy in that the point of the game is to make as many seven card straits and seven-of-a-kind groupings as possible.
Unfortunetly I have been unable to find any information on the game on the net, possibly because I'm spelling it wrong, or maybe because it is called something else in English.

Try the BBG site above and make a post about it; I am sure you will get the help you need.
I'm a big fan of mind games and romantic games. hehehe.
I love a good game of Monopoly.
Sadly, not many will play with me as I play by the rules. Not 'Fair and equal so nobody is better than another' that most people I would play against would play as.
There is no fun in everyone having an equal share of the board. And it's not the point of the game!
Now, slowly dominating others and yelling across the table for 6 hours. <3

Aah... Agreed! :D
I play a few board games as well, and I'd love to play D'n'D, if I had people around to do that...

I too agree with this, people won't play with me because I'm too good. No cheating or anything, I just dominate. You don't land on a property and not buy it, unless you don't have the money or it's not yours.

Could the card game your thinking of possibly be Canasta? The game you describe sounds extremely similar to this one.
I used to love to play both card and board games but, alas, it is difficult to try and amass a good amount of people to patiently play a marathon Risk game anymore.

This sounds promising - "ginastra" even sounds similar. There is also a popular variant of Canasta which includes straights (as mentioned by kebsis), called "Samba".
John McLeod's site Pagat has a pretty comprehensive list of card games, and card game rules.

I am involved in a good ol' D&D session once a fortnight. I also regularly play Canasta with my wife, and used to have people around every week for other card games including 500 and Euchre.
When playing board games, I enjoy word games like Articulate or Scattegories, but I have mad respect for the following game manufacturers:
Cheapass Games (these guys are like the board game equivalent of Shareware developers. Favourite: Give Me The Brain)
Steve Jackson Games (favourites: Munchkin, Ninja Burger)
If you enjoy RPGs of any kind (D&D, PC RPGs, Final Fantasy...), I can't recommend Munchkin enough. Ask around - one of your gamer friends will probably have a copy, and be happy to introduce you. Just be careful, because he will cheat.
I play tabletop RPGs every once in awhile. Mostly I stick to online gaming though. It can be such a headache to get my friends together in the same place to do anything. I've been wanting to play Munchkin for ages.
I hate to go off topic, but why is it that all the posts in this thread have negative points and are being hidden?
Also, yes the game I mentioned above was canastra...at least, some variation of it. The rules I've been playing by at work don't seem to match any of the classic rulesets.

It appears that some people in this community are going around giving negatives. It has happened in several threads already. Just offset it with positives.

Exactly why we should get rid of the daft system, it's meaningless and causes such reactions which are unecessary.
Anyway back on track, my first experience was with Spacehulk then I progressed onto Warhammer games as a matter of course.
Way back in the times of old I got into gaming playing board games. Tactical and strategic wargames were my favorites (Avalon Hill, GDW, SPI, BattleLine, Jedko Games, anybody heard of these companies?). I also got into naval miniatures for a time. There are two problem with this type of hobby:
A: A regular opponent.
B: Space to leave the game set up (some of these games can take weeks/months to finish)
Then came computers. The rest is history. :)
plus 1'd everybody who had a minus to offset the childish behavior
