This is annoying as I sold my Mafia boxed copy and hadn't rebought it yet digitally. Also the boxed copy, and one assumes the pirate copy, has an annoying video issues that makes you install ancient codecs.

I hope it returns to the store unedited.
Glad I snagged Mafia for $2.50 on some sale. That was a very good game.

orcishgamer: IIRC it was the old style Starforce. I recall more than one of my friends having serious issues with it (not hardware dead or anything, though that in theory could happen I guess). I'd actually be shocked if anyone could get one of those old disk copies to run these days without a lot of patching and tinkering.
Nope. It's SecuROM.

For what it's worth, I had to use a NoCD for an entirely different reason - to circumvent the censorship on the German version.
As some people guessed, it seems to be a problem with music licenses: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-16-michael-jackson-tune-trouble-halts-gta-vice-city-pc-sales
I don't know if this has been posted somewhere else, but it seems GTA: Vice City has returned to Steam... With many songs cut.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/GTA-Vice-City-Back-Steam-Nearly-10-Songs-Removed-50206.html

· Michael Jackson -"Billie Jean"
· Michael Jackson -"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin"
· Ozzy Osbourne -"Bark At The Moon"
· Kate Bush -"Wow"
· Herbie Hancock - "Rock It"
· Afrika Bambaataa -"Looking For The Perfect Beat"
· Lionel Richie - "Running with the night"
· A couple of songs from Radio Espantoso

Those who had purchased the game before still have them all, but not new buyers.

Damn, I'm going to miss Michael Jackson and Ozzy. In fact, I will just skip buying this game and get San Andreas while it's still whole. Has any other game in the series been cut?
