It doesn't seem to have stopped the abuse of the rep system. Because you quite clearely didn't break any rules or do anything unhelpful, neither have I. For a system that is supposed to denote how helpful you are, it seems to still just be a popularity contest.

yeah, meaning perhaps that you can't go in the negative numbers, but can still lose rep.

Maybe the same person that was plusing the shit out of you started to minus you, who knows! Does this make up for the easiness of getting rep points since they can be taken away just like that?

Not really, no. Now that I know that it is just as easy to lose rep, it makes matters worse. Like Wec said, this makes rep little more than a popularity contest, which was not the expressed intention of the rep system.
EDIT - Looks like someone has started "plussing" me again, I've gained back 4 rep since this morning.

I'll agree to this. I like the rep idea. And I'm happy to have it as I've said in the past. But it does appear to be a little sensitive at the moment. I'd be fine for it to be removed also but that doesn't really fix the issue as opposed to just scrapping the issue.
