Hey guy I just wanted to leave a review for Ommwriter here for writers, which there are considerable amount here in relative to other forums.
Personally I love it from my test run.
So here is the review:
Dana 1 by Ommwriter, writing software that allows the writer to concentrate solely on writing by using small things like soft ambiance music to relax you and background that are simplistic in design.
The version used for this review is Dana 1, the free version. Dana II is has all the same features of Dana 1, just with more backgrounds, and music for use and has minimum price of $4.11
Cost:
Free
Dana I is free to use and download, a major positive point.
Achievement of Goal:
Dana I easily achieves the goal set out by the Ommwriters. In my test drive with the program, I had typed nearly a thousand words within an hour. This is extraordinary since the last time I wrote a thousand words, it was spread over the course of the day.
The only reason I stopped writing was eye strain, which probably came from sitting in a room with next to no lighting.
Features:
Here there are some features that are missing that I would like to have added to it.
But let me start with what it does have.
It supports three font types, four backgrounds, three pieces of music to run, and three sounds that go off when you type. The music and typing sounds can be disabled if need be.
Also adjustable writing area.
Typing sounds are barely audible with the music on, which itself is quite “soft” for lack of the better term. Also to me they were not annoying and I actually kind of liked it.
The music is mostly just for relaxation and not solely for just listening.
Four backgrounds are a snowy field with tree scattered about, a pure white background, a pure dark green background, and a dark gray background.
The three font types are a version of Calibri (Body), a cursive font, and a version of courier.
The length and width of the area in which you write on can be adjusted to certain points.
(There is a maximum of how wide/tall you can make it). I just adjusted it to the maximum I can.
You can save the files in either a form specific for the program, .txt, or PDF form if you want to print it out.
Now to negatives:
-Alignment adjustment (Left aligned only)
-No Spell check (For me. Now those who are better grammatically might not find this as a problem)
-Amount of Fonts is lacking
User Interface Accessibility
Minimalistic in Design
Out of the Way
Easy to interpret symbols
Unique Style to it.
Overall easy to use program.
Summary:
Even though Dana I is lacking some features, it completes the task of allowing a writer to concentrate solely on writing and not be distracted to a certain extent by designing the entire program towards this goal it seems. It is advised to use headphones to help concentrate even more on writing.
Right now there is an ipad, mac, and pc versions of the program.
