It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

brianhutchison: No, not talking about dodgy web sites.
I've noticed over the last months or two that internet page loading is incredibly slow.
So far, so normal but here is what is odd about this:
- if I go to the address bar and highlight it and hit return the page starts to load immediately
- this happens at home and at work
- firefox definitely, chrome probably and IE possibly all suffer from this.

I have tried googling this but it tends to get swamped by unrelated hits so not much help.

Anyone got any ideas?
This can be also the prerendering / instant pages feature of Google search (also Firefox uses Google Search by default)

Did you clean your cache and temp with CCleaner?
Ccleaner is a free program (windows) that might help as well. Automatically clears up lots of useless web files in case that might be part of your problem.

Also, Malwarebytes or spybot are good for checking for malware which can slow you down.

These probably won't solve a temp issue like OP, but are great to have handy for troubleshooting. Run these quick, easy apps first when problems arise (or to help prevent them).
I also use the ESET online scanner (from the NOD23 folks). http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ In the past, it has turned up things that both my AV and Malwarebytes have missed.
