If you liked the X-COM series, you're bound to like UFO: Aftermath. And if you liked it, you're going to love UFO: Aftershock.
UFO: Aftershock is a real-time tactical game with strategic elements and the sequel to UFO: Aftermath. The game's tactical combat mode is enhanced with multi-level battlefields and enterable buildings, while the strategic view now offers more base building options. The story picks up where the prequel left off, with mankind fleeing the increasingly uninhabitable Earth to a space station - the Laputa - in the planet's orbit. Humanity clung to a bitter existence under a corrupt and for five decades and soon a rebellion broke out, leading to the station's destruction. The last survivors fled to Earth, intent on reclaiming what was once lost.
I've got nothing against the game but I just wanted to point out why on earth would anyone name their mothership "The Laputa" Do they even have a clue what "La puta" means in spanish? Not GOG's fault, I know, but it's kind of hard not to snicker when you hear that name, specially if there are any ships "entering Laputa" throughout the game.

It is from Jonathan Swifts book 'Gulliver's Travels'
It's the name of the floating island that Gulliver is rescued by after being marooned.
Ah. Somewhat ninja'd

Well, that makes perfect sense.
Given that "Gulliver" claimed to be fluent in Spanish, and Swift was a known satirist, the comparison is probably intentional.
Now where did I put my copy of the damn book. I've not read that for years!!

'k spaz. I wasn't expecting anyone around here to have a hate-on for digital media. Good luck with that.
Haha, I'm in the old smelly book loving department myself, e-books don't feel right to me even tough I'm in love with digital everything else.
Also, this and Aftermath are both awesome games, I played Aftermath when it was so new my PC couldn't run it smoothly at all. Then in anticipation of my Aftershock pre-order I bought a 6800GT video card for my PC (uber $250 card at the time) and here I am seeing it on GoodOLDGames.com (lets out a sigh) so I might get it due to the fact this one is DRM free, my cd still installs StarForce then I put the patch on arrgghhh.
By the way anyone else think this is the series high point? Aftermath was best atmosphere of scary unknown, Aftershock had less overall atmosphere but better overall gameplay, and Afterlight, well, Afterlight was great gameplay but the design foundations were flawed.
