Just over two weeks after releasing Divine Divinity, we present the second installment of the series - Beyond Divinity.
Like its predecessor, Beyond Divinity is a role-playing game, utilizing a classic point-and-click interface. Being a spinoff, rather than a direct sequel to Divine Divinity, Beyond's storyline is only loosely tied to that of the prequel. In this game you once again play the role of a servant to the Divine, fighting Evil with any means possible. You're out of luck this time, however, as a sinister demon trapped you and "forged" your soul with that of one of his minions - a Death Knight who lost his master's favor. Your fates are now intertwined and almost inseparable... You and your unlikely, disgruntled "companion" set out on a journey to break the unholy chain binding your very lives.
Can someone tell me what are the differences between this and original Divine Divinity (apart from the storyline of course;)?
Thanks!
The price is a bit stiff, isn't it? Considering it's a lot cheaper elsewhere (Impulse)... without the extras, I assume, but still.

I agree, that's why I wonder is it so much better than original (priced here at 5.99 anyway)?
It's a good game. But I have to agree that the price is a little odd. It's actually cheaper to pick up a DRM free retail version that works on Windows 7. Especially given that most people rate the first game higher.
Price on Impulse; 29.81 NOK.
Pirce on GoG; $9.99 = 55.65 NOK.
It's still pennies though and I regularly pay more for a lunch. But, the game does cost 86% more here than on Impulse for me at the moment.

Yes, that's the point in my opinion. I personally was a bit disappointed when playing the sequel some time ago. It was a bit too much hack'n'slay for me. Of course, the first one was kind of hack'n'slay, too, but I missed some atmosphere. The diversity of quests and the storyline are much better in the first part. Additionally to the "normal" maps there are kinds of random levels/maps in the sequel - I personally did not like this, but others may find this a good feature.
These are only my personal impressions. Others may have different opinions, but I personally like the first one much more. Nevertheless it is a good game still, but 9,99 is really too high - especially compared to the first one.

There was an official strategy guide released in PDF a while back:

EDIT: Also, for most widescreen resolutions, you can just use notepad to open the file "config.div" in the main directory, and change the width and height (the two uppermost values) to whatever resolution you prefer.
EDIT 2: Looks like some resolutions will have issues with menu cropping. According to WSGF:
"Two-dimensional screens can be cropped or have misaligned text. Journal-automap screen template does not scale or stretch. Zoom-view scaling only works in the widescreen resolutions 1280x720, 1280x768, and 1280x800. Zoom-view scaling is Vert - in widescreen resolutions."

The GOG price is the same as the GamersGate price.
Price wise, I'm not that concerned about, it's close enough to retail here and comes with enough extras included as a bonus.
I do intend to purchase it at some point though, even if it is more combat focused. But I should be holding back for a bit. Full price, cheaper or sales does not matter, I've been spending too much around the web the last few weeks. Wish listed: Purchase later.

Will have to look into this one.

hmmm seems a bit expensive...
The original Divine Divinity is much better than this average second game.
It is the general consensus that Beyond Divinity is a bit of a disappointment compared to DD. It has a more hack n' slash approach and includes so called Battlefields which basically are repetitive levels where you can collect experience. It's not all bad but it lacks RPG stuff that made DD popular.
It actually warms my heart a bit to see BD released on GOG as the original contained Starforce 3 protection (come to think of it, Sacred also did). I remember wanting to play it years after release and it caused BSOD on my laptop. A couple of months later a patch was released that removed the protection.
Hard to convince people to buy it from you guys when Impulse sells it for half as much. Sorry.
