HOLY CRAP!!!<>!

Am I the only one who still honestly believes this game is still going to be released eventually? I know it's "hip" to bash on DNF for the irony and whatnot. But one way or another I still seriously believe that the Duke Nukem character is just too iconic and recognizable to let go to waste.
Duke was a pastiche of musclebrained 80s action movie stars and felt dated upon release.

Yes, you are the only one.
However, you are probably correct that the character is too iconic to gather dust forever. I can imagine that we will eventually see a new Duke game, it just won't be DNF.

I think that was deliberate.

Even if DNF was released tomorrow it would still be a radically different game from the previous incarnations. The project has been through several different engines, each time using a largely new set of assets. They could even stick the DNF label on some completely separate Duke project just to put it at rest once and for all and we would never know.

Perhaps it was dated when you played it, but certainly not when it was released. It was a classic hit.

Amen to that. I believe he was the first FPS character to get a Guiness world record too.
With Apogee still around, you never know what can happen.

I used to think the game was going to be released eventually, then when 3D Realms went bust that was the last straw.
Allways bet on Duke.
Anyone who disagrees with that statement please go jump off a building.
That is all.

Of course it was. That's what made it so fun.
Well, that, and the strippers. :-P
yeah but duke 3d was what, 1996? That was basically perfect for the time since you could remember all those shitty action movies you watched as a kid and have a bit of a laugh about so over the top a character actually being presented seriously in those films. Obviously its just a personal thing but since the departure of the early arnie style movie hero, a character like that seems more like a twat rather than a fun jibe

kais246: Always bet on Duke.

For the next decade you have better chance to bet on Santa Clause.

I bet you a GOG that if DNF is released (even if it's a completely new game with a different development team but with the same character and label), it would sell upwards of a million copies. People like playing the macho action hero.
Some people would, understandably, be offended by some content in the game. Everybody else would buy it.
Oh yeah I agre it probably would sell, even if its just people buying it for a laugh or to see what DNF was supposed to be
Still I'm no judge of popularity, so many of the top selling games look like shit to me...
