Wishbone: I must admit that I thought it was a completely shitty movie. It's the only movie I've ever seen that screamed "console game!" at me. But then I've never played any of the Silent Hill games, except "The Room" for about half an hour.

TBQH, I haven't ever played a Silent Hill game. And I certainly can understand why someone wouldn't like the movie, but for some reason I enjoyed (most of) it.

Lucibel: The Fall. Hadn't heard of this movie endorsed by Spike Jonze and David Fincher, yet from the director of terrible The Cell, and had no idea what to expect.
The title sequence alone is pretty awesome for lovers of cinematography like what I am.
The plot itself is a little old, but the actors, cinematography and execution in general make it a great experience.

The "terrible" The Cell? Lofl, we would *never* get along. If more movies like "The Cell" were made, I might still care about hollywood.

kianweic: Silent Hill the movie.
Was expecting it to be crap but turned out to be one of my favorite horror movies.
It has the scare factor, it was closed to its videogame counterpart and best of all, there was some philosophy behind it.

Yeah, that was suprisingly good. The Alone in the Dark movie was ok too.

Ralackk: For me it would probably be braindead. I managed to stumble upon it late one night while flicking through channels. Its one of the funniest gore movies I've ever seen, recommend it to anyone that doesn't mind copious amounts of blood and guts.

Seen Brain Dead? It was peter jackson's previous slasher/comedy/gore movie. Personally I thought it was better than brain dead

You should play the first if you get the chance, its reasonably good. From what I've been told, The Room is the worst SH game

Screamers : I wasn't expecting much from that low-budget Sci-fi movie, and it turned out to be one of the best I have ever watched (with Pitch Black).
Starship Troopers : hated it when i went to see it in theater. Then, saw it again on TV and I don't know why but that time it clicked perfectly.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, just watched it on TV last night and for some reason it was a LOT better than I remembered.
And Casino Royale. Being a Bond nerd and Daniel Craig hater I was fully expecting to find this movie to be shit upon shit but I really enjoyed it.

No, not seen that one yet thanks for the heads up. Brain Dead was hilarious so if its better I need to get ahold of it asap.

PoSSeSSeDCoW: I thought it was a good movie, but the end fight was out of character for the movie and hurt its appeal.

Oh god the ending was so horrible...
Tank Girl. I was expecting some action ... weirdness. What came out was a completely crazy, off-the-leash movie filled by great jokes

Rohan15: Ginger Snaps. The Canadian horror movie did an excellent job on portraying lycanthropy as the menstrual cycle for the lead characters. That, and the effects were so cheesy it was good. Oh, and I have a thing for Goth girls.

I remember catching that on late night channel4. It had already started, and i'd just got back from clubbing in london with my girlfriend, and we were kind of drunk, but sobering up due to the endless nightbus ride home. We started watching it cos it looked terrible, then ended up both staying up to 5am to see the end. Was indeed much better than expected.
I totally agree on the Bourne Trilogy and Tank Girl too!
For me: The Matrix. The trailerr looked like a terrible, low budget action movie. Lots of people in leather and sunglasses jumping about. Was surprisedd how much better it was in full.
Watchmen. It came out much later here (japan) than the US, so by then I'd heard a lot of people bitch about it, and seen poor reviews. And I was a big fan of the comic. But it was probably the first film this year that i really enjoyed.
Other than that, it's usually that i'm too hyped and get disappointed.
