I was wondering if anyone had any luck with playing GOG games on Linux, specifically Ubuntu 9.10. My old PC had some bad sectors on the HDD that messed with my BIOS somehow, flashed it and the XP install disc now gives me HDD errors so I tried Ubuntu as a last ditch effort before tearing the PC into useful parts. Turned out it runs, I had to run the special FSCK command a few times before it ended up running, 3 dyas now no issues so now I want some older games on Wine. I want some input on experiences with GOG installers on Linux under Cedega or Wine and any tips or tricks to get some running.
I have an older version of Cedega, can easily get any version I want via Demonoid, but Wine is what I'm trying for now. I want to play at least Jagged Alliance 2 with 1.13 patch-mod, Fallout 1+2, and Ground Control 2. Anyone have any luck with any of those games, or is there anything I need to do special to get them running?
On a side note, with the disc versions of UFO: Aftermath and Aftershock they actually ran faster in Cedega 6 than they did on XP on same machine some 2 years ago. UFO: Aftershock took 2-10 minutes to load each map, on Cedega about 10 seconds per map. It's like the memory leak disappeared. Best yet on high settings Aftershock ran at 15-20 FPS on XP and on Ubuntu with Cedega ran over 50FPS constantly. Just wanted to mention this, hope it works for the GOG versions too.
