I'm carrying around my Acer Aspire One netbook a lot recently and while it's great to fool around on Fallout with the touchpad after a while it gets a bit stressing and tedious to use the trackpad.
I tried out the World of Warcraft 10 day thingy and while it stirred absolutely nothing in me and I consequently will be keeping €15 a month for GOG, it got me thinking on the brilliant way it uses the control scheme.
What games do you guys know that _only_ use the keyboard? Bonus points for laptop keyboards (i.e. minus the numerical pad).
I can think of the obvious MAME roms and so on and I guess racing games on GOG like Colin McRae or Screamer but I was hankering for something a little different.
I can imagine FPS are mostly out of the question, as are RTS (Starcraft is, unfortunately, dreadful with the trackpad, as is Diablo II).
What are your thoughts?
Well, I play Dungeon Siege with one hand. It makes holding sandwiches so much easier.
Anyway, there are Flash games that only use the keyboard, and you could sort of play isometric games with the keyboard. Oh, and Audiosurf. That definitely can be played without a mouse.

Of course, FPS like Half-Life are unplayable without mouse, but the older ones (Duke Nukem, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D and games based on their engines) are playable

You play a Hack'n'slash without the mouse?!?!? Perhaps I misunderstood.
I'd recommend Trackmania Nations Forever. It has the added bonus that it's absolutely free :-)

Brilliant. Can't believe I overlooked it. Cheers!
All the old SSI Goldbox games used the keyboard only....only the later editions used the mouse but you could still use the keyboard as the only input device...
Both Gothic games support the mouse but were designed to be played entirely without it. I haven't actually tried doing so, but it should be quite playable.
Out ot the top of my head i can only think of 'Dead Reefs'.
It's a point and click adventure minus the point & click interface. Keyboard only.
You mentioned 'different', right ?
Devil May Cry 3. People usually bitch about controls but I've had no problems with it... Actually, I play it a lot while I can't use my mouse
Die by the sword can be played with only the keyboard.

But it practically requires a numpad.....and I am not sure you can change the default controls...God knows I tried.
I played Descent with only the keyboard on my 386 back in the day. Now I obviously prefer a joystick, but the game works very well without it.
As klaymen mentioned, old FPS games from before mouselook became the norm will work great.
Other games: Oddworld, Earthworm Jim.
You could also try emulators for video game consoles like GBA, NES, SNES (or any console that doesn't use analog controls)

Dungeon Siege (The First One) wasn't really Hack'n'Slash. It was more: Walk to Area'n'Let Computer Kill Everything. Your party would automatically attack with whatever weapon/spell you gave them. Dungeon Siege 2 was better in everyway - Not that I finished that one either.

I remember these. Great fun. I mostly played Pools of Darkness and could never finish it.I got to the endgame but that was 3 hard fights in a row with no resting or healing between. I could get to the last of the three but I was pactically an invalid by that stage and died. However I recall the shitty mouse support also. Keyboard was the way to go.

Broken Sword 3 doesn't use a mouse. That really threw me for a loop when I first started it up :). "Wait, I thought this was supposed to be a point and click adventure game, but I can't point and click?!?"
