pds41: Interesting idea, although hard to police - would GoG underwrite the transactions (i.e. cover losses if someone scams)? If not; would they want the hassle of running it?
It wont be a hassle for GOG if they are not responsible for scams. And if there is a seller rep system, people won't be scammed so much.

langurmonkey: GOG is already vulnerable to scams. People shouldn't let fear get in the way of good things.

Foxhack: As I said, there are many good sites where you can do person-to-person trades or sales for physical items. Places that already have a framework set up to keep track of the people involved, like requiring a shipping address on file if needed. Like GameTZ.

This doesn't have to be one of them.
I'm not saying this is something we need. I'm just saying, it would be cool. A GOG where you can purchase old games digital and physical.

tinyE: How would it work? No offense, I love all of you guys (and girls), but I don't know if I want you having my home address. :P

Other than that minor concern I think it's actually a fantastic idea.
avatar
langurmonkey: AHAHAHAHA. Maybe people will send you stars? There is Paypal? I think with Paypal, you just need someone's email address. But the buyer still has to give out an address to receive games unless he or she has a PO box.

scampywiak: It would be cool if my idea was completely retarded and illegal.

langurmonkey: Just as I thought, another little kid here just talking shit who can't back up his words.
You wouldn't believe it, but I was drunk and I should have been posting in the drunk thread, I'm man enough to admit it. :P Sorry. ( but I still think your idea won't work)
Okay, how about easy version: Amazon. Have a thread for people who want to sell physical items, link it to an Amazon.com item, this way you pay in cash, there's little room for fraud, no responsibility to GOG, people can put up a request for items that they are looking for, so on so on so on, blah blah blah, probably the best way.
Good luck. ebay is about your safest bet for now, or amazon's marketplace.

Sorry - I wasn't quite clear; what I meant was if they don't take financial responsibility, people will be annoyed with gog if they get scammed (I'm not saying this is fair, but it'll probably happen - I've seen people throw toys out of the pram about changes to extras when you buy games on here).

It'd be an interesting idea though - and the rep system might actually have a use then too.

If you are sorry, I accept and take back my mean words against you.

langurmonkey: Yes, you can trade there but not sell.
Why can't you sell there? I have sold a cd-key of XCOM:EU for ~$30 there, payment through Paypal. I could have sent the package instead, with money either on delivery or through Paypal, but since the cd-key was the only thing needed, no need to send a physical item.

I do recall people asking if someone could snail-mail them music albums, and I do recall at least one poster selling his physical collection. So again, why can't you sell something in the classifieds thread? Unless you are looking for a middleman, eg someone both parties will send the items/payment to, and said 3rd party will forward those if and only if the items are in order. That is not something I'd like GOG to do, if that is what you are looking for, I'd suggest looking to other sites.

The mighty GOG said "No" when I asked it, some time ago. I don't know why.

I was unaware of that. If GOG doesn't like us selling stuff on its board though, I doubt they will make a special place to facilitate that. In this case, your best bet would be e-bay and linking to your auctions in the forums.

Maybe they don't want us to sell stuff here because there is nothing in it for them?
I've already traded some of my physical PC games with a fellow GOG member here on the forums and I got some GOG games in return, so in a way GOG did profit from that deal. I don't see any reason for GOG to provide official support for such deals between community members though. I'd rather have the team focus all their time and energy on new releases, and their lawyers on game licenses, instead of all the trouble that maintaining such a Classified section could mean.
