Lone3wolf: Agreed. Especially in the dark, at 3am, and you turn your monitor on to see the time...
Arkose: Monitors are backlit to aid visibility, not for the purpose of being your
only light source. You shouldn't be using a computer in the dark like that as it sends the contrast through the roof. For best results you should be using it in a well-lit room so that everything within your periphery has roughly the same level of brightness and contrast (which makes looking at the screen feel as "natural" as possible). If you have a glossy display you should avoid having light shining directly onto it if possible as this will be detrimental rather than helpful.
Yeah, I know all that, but for the last two years, I've been pretty much bed-ridden with ill health; sleeping all hours of the day, either because of ill health, or crappy meds that barely keep me functioning....
Having the computer at the side of my bed is a hell of a lot easier for me than maybe passing out on a chair at a desk, and falling out.... Hell, I fall asleep for 4 hours, just crossing the road to visit my GP for a new scrip  Yay NHS!
DON'T let your country's planned experiments with Health Care reform screw the doctors over for middle management! Our health care system has 5 managers for every nurse, and 25 managers for every doctor....
