also, the resources required to keep it running for extended periods of time is more than what it would cost to just use electric.

not for this specific software, but i've heard a few stories of this (edit: kind of) software turning off Av/Firewalls etc... I think as long as you make sure it isn't turning off anything you NEED it'll be fine tho.

Well I tested it out and didn't shut down Comodo, so that's good. Didn't notice any improvements though. It apparently managed to free up a grand total of 85 megs of memory. But of course, it's hard to judge after only one use, so I'll try it for a week or so and see how it turns out. It's not done anything bad, at least.

I'm a little worried about a couple of the services on the list it suggested closing, but it don't know for sure. I did find this site that gives more info on all the services though, if anyone it interested:

When it brought up the list of applications to close, it did list my AV and my firewall... though none of the apps were selected by default - so i don't recommend blindly selecting everything at this point.
Strangely, it DIDN'T select some of my other tray apps, like ad-aware.
Saved 88mb for me, though i'll have to wait and see if it really makes any difference.

A few days of using Game Booster and I have noticed absolutely no ill effects from it. The services it stops are truly unnecessary for gaming (but some are required for other OS functions) and stopping/starting everything seems to work perfectly. I'm still working on getting some real performance data (like FPS increases, mem/proc usage, etc.) but my completely unscientific tests, like running HL2 with settings maxed out (something I was previously unable to do), seem to show that it actually improves performance noticeably. For older systems or limited resource systems, it might prove helpful, but if you already have a monster machine, it probably won't do a thing for you.

Good to know. that site is indeed more useful than the one i posted, as it has a convenient list of all the services and their recommended status all on one page.
I'm a little hesitant of turning off a few services like "protected storage", and as i'm on a weird optical network i think i might need a few of the other services as well. So i've gone with not turning off anything that site recommends keeping on "automatic" in their "safe" list.
Still saves me 75mb.
I wish it would also automatically turn off ad-aware and my tablet driver software though!
