You are being horribly spammed because he decided to do a project based on the usability of this website and asked everyone to create a new thread as part of it... Blame him.
As an aside, very nice website, I like it!
tell your friend, that I'm glad he's FORCING people to use a message board that supports DRM FREE software.

If it makes more people aware of the service, then I'm for it.
Tell him there's a requirement to support GoG by purchasing a game if he's going to be advocating people to be spamming the boards. ; )

Wow, what was that thing that was actually REMOVED from the forums?
Judging from its nickname, it must be a Nazi zombie
("it" was used intentionally)
Weird things going on around here lately. Someone has to stop watching the Stalin vs Martians trailer over and over again
It was some moron posting the same piece of ascii art about 20 times. Which is pretty self-defeating, since ascii art is completely unrecognizable with a font like this.

What kind of ASCII art? If it were something like ponies, I'd question the removal.
Can I suggest people try to ignore spam threads, rather than keep said spam threads active?
(And I realise this may be one and I'm doing exactly the opposite here :)) I know there is no way to flag one short of contacting support or waiting for staff to find one, but we don't need them popping up to the top of the thread list, which is rather small until you change settings.
For new and legitimate people coming to the forums, it does not show the real community.
Until (and if) a moderation team is established, there is not that much we can do.

Well, as long as the thread doesn't keep on being spam, but derails into an interesting discussion, I don't mind. Why break up a good discussion simply because the thread started as spam? Unless it's commercial spam, like that Cisco training spam thread the other day, let's have those locked asap.

Good point.
If a spam thread does not develop into anything meaningful (As I've seen with product spam threads elsewhere), it should be axed. I was not wanting to say we should stop discussion from happening.
That said, I do think it would be better if it was redirected to its own thread.
