hi i recently purchased il2 sturmovik 1946 and people keep telling me i need the other games from the series to install it. is that right or is it a stand alone game??? thanks.

You bought it from here?
If you did, then it has every IL-2 game included. IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 is a compilation pack with everything inside.

What you bought is basically the same version which is being sold here:
You don't need anything else.
