Are new people really buying Fallout 1 and 2 every week? For as long as I've been a member of this site, I've noticed both games are always in the top slots. Is it just me?
I was lured here both by the premise and also by Fallout 1+2. I expect for many people it's the best deal on the site.
those were pretty much the first games I got.
Its hardly surprising. Now with Fallout 3 such a seizable commercial success many people who never heard of the series want to see what the original games are all about. Plus of course like previously said no DRM premise and prices are an allure as well.
Oh and its not constant either. I saw Gothic 2 overtake the first place for a few days last week.

Ya know, I think if the people buying F1&2 were only doing because they were F3 fans we'd be seeing allot more complaints about how un FPS like the former are.
When a new big release hits (like Gothic 2 as Almak mentioned), it can briefly overtake the top spot. So I think the system is reflecting the correct sales figures. The Fallout games are cult classics, and to my knowledge this is the only site on which they are available online.

Considering it's Fallout, I find that believable. And they do get overtaken occasionally, such as with the release of Painkiller Black Edition.
If they get some equally huge, older (and thus less available elsewhere) games on the service, such as Torment or System Shock, that I can see throwing the Fallouts off the weekly best-sellers list.

For an idea of what newer gamers think of fallout (and its not all bad, I promise!) there was a post a while back on a blog I read from time to time.
Brainy Gamer: Fallout 180
Fallout 2 was the first game I got in here. It's a little bit strange though, I noticed it aswell.

Brainy Gamer: Fallout 180

What a brilliant article! And it shows one of the major selling points of GOG: (some) games had more integrity in the "old days", and didn't just go for bling and the lowest common denominator. I particularly like how they start out all "Fallout 3 looks so cool, can't wait to play it", to "Oh man, they're going to fuck up Fallout 3, aren't they?" :-D

It's a good blog in general, I'd recommend checking it out in future.
That particular piece gives some good perspective on the Fallout series and the differing expectations of various groups. I wish it was required reading for everyone that labels people like me as essentially unwelcome in todays gaming market, because I prefer substance over style and prefer some of the old ways of doing things rather than the relentless mantra of "progress", "innovation" and so on.

Not that "progress" and "innovation" are any more than buzzwords in gaming these days.
I saw that article a while ago, it was cool.

For some reason, every time I browse the shop, games that are recommended to me are all from Interplay, and there are three Fallout-games in the top line of the list. And most of the times I've seen a GoG-ad somewhere, the Fallout-games are mentioned.
