I was having a discussion with a friend about this fantastic website (GOG.com). He had never heard of it, but when I explained that all of their games are DRM free, a light bulb went off in his head. It went something like this...

Me: "Have you ever been to a website called GOG.com? (pronounced as a word, like cog but with a g)
Him: No, I have never heard of it. What is it?
Me: The sell a bunch of classic games plus some new indie games. Their prices are fantastic, and all of the games are DRM free.
Him: OOHHH! You mean GOG.com (spelled out as in G-O-G.com). I love that site!

Tell me GOG community, who is right, and who is crazy?

I tend to say "GOG", as in "GROG" minus the R.

Tough! I would say your friend is right, because I've always thought (since joining this afternoon) that it is pronounced G-O-G.com, not GOG as in cog.

I don't think it's that uncommon to pronounce acronyms as if they were a word, or to spell them out instead. I don't think it matters who is "right" or "wrong," it's an acronym, say it how you want.

Side note: I'm not sure how anyone would "have no idea" that "G. O. G." could be pronounced "GOG."

I typically say GOG instead of G.O.G, but I don't see how one is more correct then the other.

Regardless of whoever might have been right in the past, I think at present your pronounciation is the right one, since they clearly stated that the site's name is gog.com now and not "Good Old Games" anymore, so the acronym has become a brand name. Pronouncing it G-O-G would suggest it still has an actual meaning, but it doesn't.

Then again, in the "This week on GOG" videos, TET actually pronounces it "gee oh gee", but that's quite inconsistent if you ask me. Although it's pretty funny, if you think about it. Maybe it's got a new meaning now: "Gee. Oh gee! I can't believe my eyes, this site is too good to be true!" At least it's not OMG.com. Heh.

I say "GOG". The acronym G.O.G doesn't come off naturally to my tongue.

I've posted this before but Gogledd is Welsh for North apparently. I don't speak the language but I do live in Wales - and 'gog' is sometimes used as slang for someone who lives in North Wales, by those who live in certain parts of the South. It sometimes becomes confusing and the conversation always goes the same way and ffjdzgzgdgj. Plus it's considered somewhat offensive so it can lead to misunderstandings.

As a result, most of the time I recommend it has been to friends online, so that avoids the hazard of pronounciation in Wales. If/when I do though I spell it out in the hopes they won't pick up on the link and get confused and make me explain things again.

I used to pronounce it "GOG" like as one would pronounce the name "Bob" (replacing the "B" by a "G"). That was until I saw GOG's conferences where the guys who work there pronounced the name of their company "G-O-G". So the answer is "G-O-G" (but I still use "GOG", that's quicker to pronounce :)

I pronounce "GOG.com" in such a way that it rhymes with "Susan".
