To my understanding, this Sunday is GOG's 5th birthday; the first invites for the closed beta were sent September 8, 2008 (and GOG had a first anniversary sale around this time in 2009). So I figured I'd make a thread a little early to get as much relevant discussion as possible. This could also be our "birthday card" to GOG, so to speak. Share your experiences with GOG over the past half-decade, or just wish them a happy birthday.

The first time I heard about GOG a friend linked me to the teaser site, and I liked everything GOG had to offer so I signed up for the closed beta right away. I wasn't much of a PC gamer when I first got a PC (in 1998, I was 8), so I figured this would be a good opportunity to catch up on the classics. I didn't get my invite until the day after, but I've been with GOG since just about the beginning. I don't post on the forums much, but I am always lurking, and always trying to get more people to sign up and give GOG a shot. Now I'm up to 213 games and counting, and I've got them all backed up on my home server.

So, happy birthday, GOG, may you have five more years of classic PC gaming prosperity.

Oh, and a little observation: GOG currently has 606 games in their catalog. Coincidence? ...Yeah, probably.
O! 5 years and GOG does NOT celebrate? Shame! ;-P

Anyway happy anniversary, GOG!

Raises a glass in toast to GoG. Thank you for your wonderful service and here's hoping for your continued success!
Oh cool well happy anniversary GOG! hope you have many more and continue to sell awesome games while growing larger. If it wasn't for gog I would of never tried games like

FO1&2/ Planescape torment/ BG1& 2 /Deus Ex so thanks again for all the amazing games
Yay ! I better get some money and do a giveaway :D
I made an account in 2009 when I found it during a search on the net for information about Outcast, Sacrifice and Giants Citizen Kabuto (another title that I can't find) but I didn't buy them for some reason (I was probably broke). Then a year later I created another account because I didn't remember that I had actually made an account before and bought these games including Enclave which outside of Blood Omen 2 are the only games I regret buying. I didn't start to frequent the forums until late 2011 and even more in 2012. Currently my collection consists of about 110 games and rising, I'm likely going to stay here until the day I die or if GOG goes bankrupt.

It has been a good run. I think someone mentioned in some earlier thread that GOG doubled there profit from last year but don't take my word for it as I don't remember the thread.

Whenever I meet someone that is interesting in older titles I refer them to this place and explain to them how it works and the advantages of the site but unfortunately there are way too few.
Is this real? 5 years, and not even a single banner...? (:P)
I can't even remember how I heard about GOG. Probably a link on a gaming site. Signed up for beta access as soon as I could and apparently ended up in the first wave of invites. GOG was an awesome idea back then and they've stuck to their guns while also continuing to expand their business.

Happy Anniversary, GOG!

Happy anniversary GOG! :)
Happy birthday GOG!!

I got into point and click adventures and was trying to buy the classics where I live. Lets just say the search was difficult. When someone introduced me to GOG I found exactly what I was looking for.

Keep up the good work and all the best in the future!
Aww, Happy Birthday, GOG! =)
Happy Bday GOG
Happy Birthday GOG!

Here's how I found out about GOG:
We were visiting friends in the other end of the country. One day we were in the town, just walking around, looking at shops. I went into a GameStop to have a look around, and found a used copy of MDK2 for PS2. I loved MDK for the PC, but never played the second one, so I decided to buy it. As I did, I mentioned to the guy behind the counter that it was a pity it wasn't the PC version as I'd rather play that, and he told me about this great new site, GOG.com, which had it for sale, DRM free and working on modern systems out of the box. As soon as I got home I checked it out, but the closed beta was, well, closed. I entered my email address to be informed when it opened to the general public, which happened about a week later. And I've been here ever since.
Happy birthday, GOG! :)
