MrEco: OK! I think I should mention something. I did ask for tactical type shooters. In other words games like Metroid Prime, Killer 7, Time Splitters and P.N.03 are exactly what I'm not looking for. Something that requires more intelligence and not just a fast trigger finger and a love of super unrealistic stories/settings.

Weclock: you have some of the worst systems for games that you want.

Well typically I'm spending my Saturday nights alone in a cold dark room playing a turn-based JRPG. So actually, no, I've got the perfect consoles.
I'd love to find a place where I could buy Freedom Fighters. It's probably the only EA game I liked...
Maybe on GOG? :P

Don't you have a gaming rig?...

If you mean whether or not I play PC games then the answer is yes and no. I don't have a powerful enough PC to be playing anything made in the last 6 or so years. It can play old PC games however. Hence why I'm on GOG.com.
If your into World War II tactical shooters, the Brothers in Arms series, at least in my opinion, does it very well.
Sure the first to games can be ridiculously hard at times, but finishing them is oh so satisfying.
As far as I know, the first two are available for PS2 and the Wii.
Though be warned... the Wii version is supposedly technically broken as in poor frame rate, ect...

I read your suggestion.
I looked it up on Wikipedia.
I found some gameplay videos of it on Youtube.
I came.
How did that amazing looking game pass by me unnoticed with out even a cursory glance? My god. I'm one of the only five people on the planet who love WWII FPS and I've never even heard of the Brothers in Arms series! HOW?!? Anyways, thanks for filling me in on that. Seriously, thank you!!
When the licensing issues are taken care of, maybe Operation Flashpoint and Original War might be to your liking. I haven't played them myself but they seem to be right up your alley.

I'm really surprised that no-one has mentioned the Splinter Cell series yet. You can get it for , [url=http://uk.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/splintercell/index.html?tag=result;title;9]Gamecube or . I would call this one of the best Tactical Shooters out, without a shadow of a doubt. Also seeing as you said your PC is 6 years out of date, I would image you should even be able to play this if you don't want it on either console. If you like it you can carry on with [url=http://uk.gamespot.com/ps2/action/pandoratomorrow/index.html?tag=result;title;3]the series of them. Another plus is the music is done by Amon Tobin and the sound track to Chaos Theory is one of the best Drum and Bass albums around.
The only other series I would recommend is Hitman, which has a heavy tactical edge to it. Plus killing people with piano wire never gets dull, or you can play the game like this.

Nah, Splinter Cell was more of an actiony-type game, not really a shooter. And also, weren't the system requirements for Double Agent so ridiculous for its time?

I didn't think of Splinter Cell as a shooter. More like a combination of sneaker/shooter. I loved sneaking up on the bad guys and silently killing them by breaking their necks. If the game had a blackjack it would have been perfect.

Yep, I quite enjoyed the series of games.
And if you don't mind it is customary on this forum to mark a solution to the question you had.
Anyways, enjoy!.

I don't think its easy to define 'action', all I know is you really had to think over each level, every shot, move etc. So its got the tactics the OP wanted. Maybe its not exactly right, but you can't fault it for making you think.
I was kinda talking about Chaos Theory alone and the sequels on the same platform. I've never played Double Agent.

I've played Hitman and Splinter Cell. Both are OK games. Also, my computer isn't 6 years out of date, its practically brand new. There's just a lot of small viruses. And the graphics card is outdated.

I know about marking answers to the question topic. But I tend to wait until the suggestions have stopped flowing before I pick the best one.

Would you consider the Thief games as well? Granted you don't shoot in those games but you do have to use your brain and your surroundings to complete your objectives. Plus you get to steal stuff!!!

It would have been lulz if you could have done this in splinter cell too. Could you imagine Sam Fisher sneaking around with a dresser full of loot. That would be great XD
