I was wondering if there would ever be any mentioning of things like sales numbers, number of members, etc.
I'm very interested in seeing how GOG has done so far.

I whole-heartedly agree with you. We need some news about the site's successes. Are they turning a profit? When kind of successes are they having getting more publishers/developers onboard? How are they dealing with Piracy?
Well, CD Projekt (the dudes that run GOG) is a private company, so they don't have to disclose their financial profit information, and they're in Poland, so they're subject to those laws too. To me, the financial side of this stuff is bullshit to me, but I agree that it would be nice to see some numbers.
Instead of giving numbers maybe they can use a Likert scale rating system to show how they are doing.
1. Much worse than expected
2. Worse than expected
3. Right where we expected
4. Better than expected
5. Much better than expected
It would give us a hint at what is happening while not giving out any information that gog deems to be private.
One way to get an idea of how popular the site is would be to consider the wishlist. The top wished for game, System Shock 2, currently has 2874 votes. If we assume that everybody who visits GOG wants SS2 and voted for it on the wishlist, we can presume that the number of visitors should be around that number. The number of votes is probably an indication of how many GOG visitors thoroughly scour the site.

deathkitten: no because on any website that forces you to make an account first its human nature that a lot people won't bother (lazy/its boring/better things to do too time consuming)

I don't think you read through my entire post. The votes indicate "how many GOG visitors thoroughly scour the site." Not the number of lazy people who visit the site.

I did not vote for System Shock 2 and will not do it. And I know about 20 people who also have GOG accounts and did not vote for this one, so your theory is wrong.
Just check the website stats on alexa.com with country demographics, traffic rank, etc...

Wow, such negativity in replies so far!
Yup, my assumptions were flawed. Unfortunately, it is the only metric I could find on this website and thus I made an estimate based on a hard number and my listed assumptions.
As for Koala's assertion that "[my] theory is wrong"...so you really think that the SS2 vote total does not reflect the number GOG visitors at all? That total represents some percentage of the total visitors to the site (the number of people with registered accounts, who have a tendency to vote for such things, and that really liked SS2). All of that is "wrong"?
Your suggestion to alexa.com is great though. Takes the guesswork out of it. However, the website refuses to load for me at the moment. Have any numbers to post?

BTW, why your adamant negative stance on SS2? As for myself, I have no idea what 20 of my friends did not vote for.
Yup, I've also got a problem with connecting to Alexa today. Maybe try to visit the website a bit later. :)
From the stats we can see that most of the visitors come from US. Is someone surprised? :)

I did not say that SS2 is a poor game, contrary, it's a very good product, but I think that there are lots of games which require the vote more. I do not know why other people are not voting for this one, maybe they do not know this title, have never played it, etc. :)
Surely GOG will take into consideration so many wishes and try to get this one as soon as possible. Let's now help other good classics to get higher on the list. :)
p.s. There is a space on one Polish forum about GOG with a debate for which games I did vote and for which not.
ok, ok, I will vote for SS2, it costs me nothing. :) Now let's go back to GOG stats...

Still, the top 10 as it stands now is pretty pointless. The should remove it, reset the votes and make the list sortable instead. After such a long time with those ten games being displayed always, and the closest contestant almost impossible to find, the result is bound to be skewed beyond usability.
Hmmmm.... so, according to alexa, the 3 month average reach of gog.com is 0.00196% of global internet users. Now, can anyone tell how many users this actually is?
(I know, I know... maybe I should research further but if someone already knows...)
Edit: If the reference number Alexa uses is not known, one could always compare the gog.com results to a site one can get more accurate statistics for... hmmm... I might be able to do it if I have time this weekend.

Alexa gathers data collected from users with the Alexa software, some kind of malware if you want. So it's not so accurate D:
Come on people. This is a private own company. That won't show us (theirs costumers) any results abou this project.
It would be the same thing like going to a car dealer and ask them to give you ( a potencial buyer), al the economical information and any extra data about it. It doesn't make any sense.
I know that all of us here want to see this project lift off and stand for many years to come, for all the reasons that we know. But we have to understand that at the bottom line we are only consumers/costumers.
