I was thinking about Christmas, Birthdays, Gifts, etc., and wondered if there would be a way to purchase Gift Codes that could be given away to others as gifts and then the person receiving the code could use it here on gog.
Is this a conceivable idea? I think it would be rather cool to be able to give or receive a code for either a $5.99 or $9.99 game. Or to make it easier how about $10.00, $15.00, $20.00, or $25.00 codes that show as a running balance in the users profile. If there was a little left over it could be applied to a sale that was being paid via CC.
So what do you think gog?
What do you think gog community?
What do people think about this idea???
I second this.
I think that'd be great, but obviously wouldn't work until this becomes more of an open beta- I would say "What would make a better present than a beta invite to GoG?", but I suspect for some of the less technically minded, anything with the tag of beta would appeal somewhat less.
=D awesome idea, though.
I probably would already have spent at least $50 gifting stuff to people if this was implemented. So many classic gems that my friends have never heard of...
Seconded fuck yes.
That's a cool idea.
Great Idea. I'm the kind of guy that buys my buddies full priced games on steam just so I have someone to play with. So of course I would buy them 5-10 dollar games for the same thing.
The ability to reserve cash/credit for gifts, would have GoG acting like a bank (?) and could be open to abuse (somehow, I know other places avoid this).
So, two different options.
1) Gift ability for others accounts. This would require one to know friends username (not such a big deal).
2) Each user has a Wishlist of games they plan to buy. A friend can come along, see what the user wants and gift(purchase for) it from that list. Depending on how friends work, only 'friended' people can see the lists.
edit: late night cold fingers...

I was not thinking of this during beta, but once the site goes live. I have already written gog about the idea of gift cards that might be placed in stores, but I thought this would be a no cost idea that would act like a virtual gift card of sorts.
I think it would be great to say to someone that wanted to buy you a gift to get you a Gift Code at gog. I think most people would be thrilled to only have to spend $10.00 for a great gift to make someone happy.
It just seems like a win, win situation for users and gog.
If it worked the same way that Gifting someone a game on the Wii does, where you pay for the game and the recipient gets an email saying 'So-and-so has given you a game. Download from here' and a link to GOG.
Of course it'd have to be out of beta by then, but hopefully it will be by Christmas ;)
Teph
gog staff, any thoughts on this idea???
I would definitely use this if offered.
:^)
Sure, I already see my brother's happy face when he sees what he got for xmas :)
I'd totally use this so that I can finally have some Die By The Sword multiplayer matches for once.
