ZamFear: 3D Realms (formerly Apogee) released a few of their old titles as freeware. I've never heard of most of them, but Alien Carnage and Bio Menace are quite good.

Yep... never played either, or any freeware in that page!
Duke Nukem 1 and 2 are two of the very few non-Mario action platformers that I can endure, they're both great... there's just the shareware episodes though.

acare84: You can try Outspark's games. They are free and addictive games, I like Project Powder.

Curse your eyes! I went and tried it, I'm addicted already. :)
How good for you. :)

Magnus: Ahem, 3000AD's games. Battlecruiser 3000AD v1.0 and 2.09, Battlecruiser Melenium and now Universal Combat. Nothing better. NOTHING!

Oi... there's another Battlecruiser nut here besides me? And.. the universe didn't implode?
You didn't mention the best multiplayer game of all that's available for free. FEAR Combat. Very very fun. Also, America's Army is excellent, and I've premade my nickname for the Unreal Engine 3-powered America's Army 3, with the nick michaelleung, so when it comes out, you'll be able to cream me in-game!
AGDInteractive, on top of king's quest 1, also re-did and release King's Quest 2 and Quest for Glory 1 and 2. All for free with slightly upgraded graphics... pretty dang awesone.

Nuts, theres another one of us! I must hide how bad I am it! :o
Yesterday I finished Soviet campaign in Red Alert 1. Man it was brutal: talking bout murdering children, peoples' necks are snapped on screen, poisons...
it was awesome.
currently on fifth mission: Allies.
For anyone who never got the chance to play old classic I really recommend it.
files are on gameshark.

I decided to just go ahead and try Universal Combat yesterday.
I had no fucking clue whatsoever as to what I was supposed to do. He who shalt not be named (for reasons I don't know) really has the knack for making unintuitive games apparently...

You mean the one released as freeware not too long ago?
Spent half a precious weekend on it and ended up as confused as I was when I started playing it...

That one, yes. And it is indeed very confusing. Worst part is figuring out the controls... didn't really come to me that looking it up beforehand might be practical. Oh, well. I've got enough games to play, I was just curious. Now I'm just confused.
Yep, with enough indie freeware games frankly I doubt I'll ever touch that again. A voice inside my head does keep nagging to give it one more try :P - the features do seem to be quite ambitious...

Uh, every consider looking at the help docments? Theres a indepth tutorial, a keyboard map, and a manual. Read them, they're there for a reason. These are one of the good ol' games, you know - where you have to read about it to fully understand it. It isn't Halo ;)

Yeah, I guess so. When I tried it I had just come home from work, and couldn't be bothered to do much. I guess it's kinda like X, though even more complicated, manual is needed, unless you like horsing around too much...
