I have the original Albion CD too, and wasn't it actually a DOS game? Which means it should run ok with DOSBox.

My first and only Albion play (in Win98SE I think) ended to the first 3D dungeon, quite right in the beginning of the game. For some reason I totally lost interest when I entered the dungeon, maybe it didn't have automap (did it?) and I just didn't feel like inspecting the dungeon without one, or maybe ADHD kicked in and I started playing Duke3D or Quake instead. Maybe I should dig out the game again and retry.

Seems like a good time to say that it seems a bit of a shame that Azderath or whatever its called - 'Ultima 0' wasn't included as bonus content with the 1, 2, 3 pack or the free one, Ultima 4

Mobygames says Blue Byte was absorbed by Ubisoft. Can we assume then that Ubisoft would have the rights to Albion?

I've seen Albion on abandonware sites. So whoever has the rights isn't interested in selling it.

The same was true for several other titles now sold on GOG, and I'd guess not all abandonware sites ask the publishers about their plans, occasionally some even have stuff on them that is still commercially available or that publishers have explicitly forbidden to distribute, so the fact that it's on abandonware sites doesn't necessarily mean GOG wouldn't be able to bring it here.

The site I referred to has replaced several download links for links to GOG. It's a site that tries hard not to hurt anybody's sales but if nobody's selling it, they might offer it as a free download.

Real men play the CD version (of Albion) anyway, not a rip from an abandonware site. Albeit I don't remember if the game had any meaningful movies or audio tracks on CD.

Little off-topic: yesterday I installed and started playing the CD version of War Wind, a lesser known RTS game by SSI. Since it had a 16-bit installer that didn't work on 64bit Win7, I decided to give the "abandonware" version (a rip) a spin as well. I didn't care that much for the missing FMV in the rip, but what made me to retry the original CD version was that the rip had inferior MIDI music, instead of superior digital music that seems to be in the CD version.

So, I actually went up to install the CD version on a XP machine, and then transferred the installed files to my Win7 machine. Seems to work fine with FMV and digital music now, it seemed to crash every few minutes but running the game as admin and setting some Win98SE compatibility options seemed to make it stable.

Too bad the game itself doesn't seem that interesting based on two first missions. I was originally interested in it because some reviews suggested it has (four) completely different races/factions, just like Starcraft (Terran/Zerg/Protoss). The GameFaqs FAQ author for the game seemed to love the game though, so I'll still give it a chance.

Those would be the big three for me. I'm hopeful they will all come to GOG eventually, especially the remaining Ultima titles.

Too many to mention (read: actually I'm too lazy to write them all down :-P ) but so far from what I read many have been posted already, so maybe I'd just add a few:

- Entomorph: Plague of the Darkfall (could not finish the game back then, am interested to try this again)

- The Fall: Last Days Of Gaia (needs an English translation though)

- Seal of Evil

- Anvil of Dawn (has it been mentioned already above?)

I'll go for 'Legend' aka 4 Crystals of Trazere. An old mindscape title from 1992, this would be the first rpg I ever played and being around 9 or 10 at the time and not even knowing what an rpg was it's safe to say I sucked at it and never even completed the first dungeon yet still found it great fun.

I tried many times to find some info about it online but as I only knew the title as Legend at that point it was something of a needle in a hay stack as you can imagine. I finally found it's full title recently and armed with that I was able to track it down on one of the abandonware sites and have recently started a new play through, it would be great to get an official copy on here though.
